SpyXposer Launched Online
A New Tool for Online Spyware Detection
Recent data compiled by Panda's ActiveScan indicates spyware risk has doubled in recent months. In an effort to reduce cybercrime, Panda launched SpyXposer to help prevent hackers from stealing confidential information such as personal details, banking information and even browsing activity, all of which are commonly collected and sold to third-parties.
The definitions are updated continuously and SpyXposer boasts it can keep up with the pace of new spyware. The program also detects hacking tools, jokes, security risks and hoaxes. The good news is you won't have to download a huge file. Operating much like Trend Micro's Housecall, users are simply asked to allow the use of minor essential components that enable the product to function properly. It's all automated with great ease-of-use. It took me less than 2 minutes to set up and prompted me for permission prior to initiating tasks. After setting it up, you can go for the quick scan (if you're short on time) or the complete scan (highly recommended). It runs in the background, but you'll need to open another browser to surf. If you close the scanning browser, it shuts down the scan. I'm running both F-Secure and AVG on my system and SpyXposer detected 37 spyware programs. I was impressed.
The only downside is SpyXposer doesn't disinfect. However, you can use their free online repair utilities to manually remove and repair the trail of damage left by viruses.
Panda is a member of the Anti-Spyware Coalition (ASC), a group leading the debate surrounding spyware and other potentially unwanted technologies. Luis Corrons, director of PandaLabs, urges consumers to be proactive in the fight against cybercrime. "It is always recommendable for users to ensure they have permanent anti-malware protection installed on their computers, and that they are completely up-to-date."

Post a CommentIt might be good, but don't rely on it. No one anti-spyware program finds them all, so use more than one. Three recommendations:
- Ad-Aware (www.lavasoft.de)
- Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org)
- Microsoft Anti-Spyware (www.microsoft.com/spyware).
Anything that forces you to use Internet Explorer (one of the most unsafe browsers out there) should be used with caution.
