Squidoo Tips for Associated Content Users

Thoughts from an AC Contributer Who is Also a Squidoo Lensmaster, on How to Use Both Most Effectively to Promote Your Content

What's Squidoo?

Squidoo is another place that you can create and post content of your own to share with others and potentially make some money. On squidoo you create topic specific 'lenses', or web pages, about whatever you're interested in. It's very multi-media friendly, and so you can create a very rich looking page involving text, pictures, videos, links, RSS feeds, and anything else you would like. It's free to use squidoo, and the range of topics you can write on is relatively unlimited.

Why is Squidoo really cool for AC Writers?

Squidoo gets traffic from a lot of places that may be different from the sources you'r already getting traffic from. It has a large friendly community of writers, many of whom seem to make a real point to check out and promote each others work. Squidoo lenses are promoted on the squidoo site, and because of the way they are designed they seem to pop up in the Google, yahoo, and MSN search engines relative quickly.

If you want traffic for you AC articles you should try to promote them in multiple places, because you'll get a wider range of readers. You can create a lens based on topics you write about here on Associated Content, and then link them into your pages on Squidoo. For instance, my lens on freelance writing opportunities links into several articles I've written here, and I blog I keep about making money writing online. Not very far into the page I talk about AC, and so other writers who would like the opportunities here may follow the links and check it out. By creating lenses like that you can lead interested readers back to your content here, and may also have the creative ones decide to join the group of wonderfully talented writers we have here.

You also have additional avenues of income on Squidoo. It's perfectly okay to post affiliate links on your pages there, even encouraged. I'd recommend keeping it to what's relevant to your page that people might actually be interested in, but as long as you keep it from looking like a page full of spam it's okay to promote whatever you want. In that was you may be able to also generate other revenue through affiliate sales from companies like amazon, or whomever you would like to work with. You may be able to cross promote if it's done gracefully, by linking some of your pages there into the resource links here.

Another example of that might be lucrative at holidays and special times of the year. For instance, I wrote an article here on "How to Pick Great Holiday Gifts for Your Friends Who Are a Little Strange" . Over there I did a page of fun presents for musical people ( HERE ) and treasures for writers ( HERE ) . If they were properly linked within the guidelines of both communities, the articles here might help to promote what's on the lenses there, and vice versa.

Drawbacks to Squidoo

This won't be worth you're time unless you are willing to put work into it. No one wants to read pages that are just stuffed with affiliate links and very little relevant information. You'll do best if you put pages together about subjects you really care about, or have a deep interest in, or have a lot of fun with.

Once you create a lens you have to update it regularly for it to get a continually higher page ranking, and also to keep it from falling into the ethers of lost and forgotten content. That doesn't mean you have to rewrite the whole page, but you at least have to open it up and spruce it up once in a while. That can just be a matter of adding a picture, quote, video, or rearranging page elements - so it's really not that hard.

However, once you have a lot of lenses going at once, it could become a time consuming challenge. I'm actually scheduling time every day to work on it, at least a little bit, because I'm serious about seeing if Ican make it go somewhere that I could call a personal success. I feel the same way about AC, and am more than willing to dedicate some regular time to it. If you don't think it's something you'll try to keep up with, it may not work for you as well as it's working for me.

If this sounds great and you want to try it yourself JOIN SQUIDOO TODAY. Then, make a concentrated effort to spend at least a little time every day creating a new lens. It really only takes five or ten minutes to get the basics put in, at which point you can publish your page and go back and add to it at will.

Squidoo is also a Really Fun Format to Work With

Whether your in it for the joy of putting great information together in a sharable way, or for the money, you might get really hooked. As you publish more pages your author ranking increases, and you have the chance to win little trophies and collect points to unlock new abilities. This makes writing and putting together multimedia pages even more fun. The way Squidoo works encourages interaction between the lensmasters, and it ca all be very, very addictive.

If you decide to try Squidoo, be patient with it at First

There are plenty of people on this site who are actually paying their rent and bills with the earnings from their pages. The trick is taking the time to learn what works and play with it. I mean, be playful with it and have fun. Don't immediately focuson how much money you hink you should learn for it to be worth your time. I'm pretty sure that it will become very worth it over time, and moreso if you focus on delivering content that others will enjoy and come back to again and again. You won't get your first payout until you've been around for two months. Your second payout should start to show what it might or might not do for you.

I'm sure we've all put time into things that didn't work and that it's part of the learning curve. I've also now talked to enough people who are actually making a significant portion of their income from Squidoo, and so it's clearly possible. For people who write online content and enjoy Associated Content,I'm fairly certain that the best way to make the most money is to use all of the services available as much as possible, and cross promote everything you write as much as possible.

Good Luck with whatever methods you try! If you are already on Squidoo, or if you decide to join, you can find me over there as LadyJasmine. I always enjoy checking out the work of other cool people, so be sure to visit and send me a message!
