A Guide to Haunted House Attractions in St. Louis, MO

Cassie Schmelz
Visiting haunted houses is a great way to celebrate Halloween. If you like haunted houses and live in the St. Louis area, you're in luck because there are two great haunted house attractions to choose from: The Darkness and Creepyworld. Both St. Louis area haunted houses offer multiple attractions.

The Darkness, in downtown St. Louis, is a haunted theme park where you get three haunted attractions for the price of one. Not only do you get admission to the actual Darkness haunted house, you also get to experience Terror Visions and travel through their Monster Museum. The Darkness haunted house is an award winning attraction in its 15th year of operation that takes those who dare to enter through several stories of terror. Once inside The Darkness, you will encounter things like a 15 ft Minotaur and a life-like T-Rex that will attack you, as well as falling floors and dropping walls.

After you travel through The Darkness haunted house, you will enter the Terror Visions haunted house in 3D, which is brand new for 2009. Once you enter Terror Visions, you put on your 3D glasses and let the fun begin with moving floors, terrifying clowns, and wild circus animals. If you make through Terror Visions in one piece, you will exit into the Monster Museum which features actual movie props from horror movies like Saw. Also in the Monster Museum, is The Darkness gift shop. With three attractions and plenty of scares, The Darkness is a 2 million dollar, newly renovated St. Louis haunted house that is a must see for haunted house enthusiasts.

The Darkness is open the last two Friday and Saturday nights in September, every night in October, and November 1st, 6th, and 7th. Ticket prices are $20.00 for an adult and $15.00 for children 11 and under. A speed pass may also be purchased for $10.00 extra to ensure that you don't have to wait in any lines. Although tickets for the Darkness can be bought on site, they also offer them on line where you can print them from home. For more information, call 314-241-3456, or visit their website. They are located at 1525 S. 8th Street, St. Louis, MO.

The other premier St. Louis area haunted house attraction is Creepyworld in Fenton. Creepyworld, the longest haunted house in St. Louis, features four haunted houses for the price of one. First, you enter Ravens Mansion which is an old mansion full of terrifying goodies like a greenhouse with flesh eating plants. After a frightful trip through Ravens Mansion, you get access to the all new addition, Dominion of the Vampire, where you'll be led through a graveyard, swamp, and castle of vampires. Next, you can enjoy the Tombstone Haunted Hayride, which is the only haunted hayride in St. Louis. Last, but not least, you enter Silo-X, the scariest part of Creepyworld. Silo-X is a 30,000 square foot haunted house, full of terrifying surprises that I wouldn't dare spoil.

Creepyworld is also open the last two Friday and Saturday nights in September, every night in October, and November 1st, but not the 6th and 7th like The Darkness. Creepyworld ticket prices are the same as The Darkness and they also have a speed pass option to avoid the crowds. For your convenience, Creepyworld tickets can be purchased and printed from home as well. For more information, you can call 314-631-8000, or visit their website. Creepyworld is located at 13th Street on 141, Fenton, MO.

If you feel like you just can't choose between these two St. Louis haunted houses, there are combo tickets available for The Darkness and Creepyworld. Combo tickets are $35.00 for an adult and $30.00 for a child. Speed passes are also available on combo tickets for an additional $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for a child.

Which ever St. Louis haunted house you choose, it's sure to be a good time. Happy haunting!
