St. Louis Blue's Jeff Woywitka and His Hockey Career

Jeff Woywitka is a professional hockey player that St. Louis Blue's fans are quite familiar with. Jeff Woywitka was born in Vermilion, Alberta in Canada on September 1, 1983, making him twenty-five years old. Jeff Woywitka is a defenseman who stands at 6 feet 2 inches and weighs 215 pounds. Jeff Woywitka started on his way to a professional hockey career ten years ago, and has an up and down experience with the NHL.

During the 1999-2000 season, Jeff Woywitka started playing in the WHL (Western Hockey League) with the Red Deer Rebels. The WHL is one of the three leagues that makes up the CHL (Canadian Hockey League) which is the best junior hockey league in all of Canada. Jeff Woywitka played with the Red Deer Rebels until the 2002-2003 season. In 2002, He was named to the WHL East Second All-Star Team. Also in 2002, Jeff Woywitka was named to the CHL Third All-Star team. The following year, in 2003, he was named to the WHL East First All-Star team. During this season, Woywitka was also awarded the Bill Hunter Trophy, which is presented to the scoring leader.

Jeff Woywitka was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2001, 27th overall. After his last season with the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL (2002-2003), Jeff Woywitka was placed in the AHL (American Hockey League) with the Philadelphia Phantoms. Woywitka only played about twenty games with the Philadelphia Phantoms before being moved to another team in the AHL, the Toronto Roadrunners. He finished out the rest of the 2003-2004 season with the Toronto Roadrunners. For the 2004-2005 (the year of the NHL Lockout), Jeff Woywitka was moved to yet another team in the AHL, the Edmonton Roadrunners and he stayed with them the entire season.

At the beginning of the 2005-2006 hockey season, Jeff Woywitka finally got to play in the NHL. He started out the season with the St. Louis Blues, but only got to play 26 games with them before being moved down to their affiliate AHL team, the Peoria Rivermen. Jeff Woywitka finished out the 2005-2006 season with the Peoria Rivermen and started off the following, 2006-2007, season with them as well. He spent the majority of the hockey season with the Rivermen, but was called up to play with the St. Louis Blues. He played 34 games with the St. Louis Blues and finished out the rest of the season with them. Jeff Woywitka again started off the hockey season with the Peoria Rivermen in 2007-2008 and was once again called up by St. Louis to play towards the end of the season. The 2008-2009, Jeff Woywitka started with the St. Louis Blues, and played the majority of the season with them in the NHL, but was moved down towards the very end of the season to the AHL once again.
