Earth Day St. Louis 2011- " Be The Change" -comes to the Muny in Forest Park on April 17. No. not a theatrical production, but a celebration promoting awareness of environmental issues which affect us all. The free to the public event commences at 11:00 A.M. and runs to 6:00 P.M. Forest Park is easily accessible at I-64 (Hwy 40 to the natives) and Hampton Ave. While there is normally lots of free parking in Forest Park, it being a spring day the other attractions in the park also bring their share of visitors. You might consider alternative transportation in light of the day's theme. Metrolink has a station at Forest Park/DeBalivere only a half mile from the festival site. Not a bad hike through the park.

The first thing you will want to do in planning for the event is clean out the closets, basement, attic and garage. All the "junk" that you have the heart to part with can be donated at the Earth Day Recycling Extravaganza from 9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. This site is located on the St. Louis Community College Forest Park Campus parking lot, 5600 Oakland, just south of Forest Park.. Donations are accepted by category and even include those hard to recycle items like TVs, monitors and even computers. Load up your car accordingly so you can drive down the line of partnering organization with acceptable items. Then drop your car off in the parking lot and jump on the environmentally friendly shuttles that will whisk you off to the festival grounds.

Create a musical instrument from recycled materials and have your face painted from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Why, you ask? Well so you can join in the All Species Parade which kicks off the celebration at Noon.

Musical entertainment begins at 11:00 A.M. and ends at 5:00 P.M. Then play that musical instrument you made earlier for the judges and you might win a prize

Food and beverage vendors will dot the grounds with organic and natural treats to please your palate.

The theme of this year's festival is "Be The Change" and the festival will be set in neighborhood themes making it easier to plot your course seeing and feeling what is important to you. Arts and crafts, pets and wildlife, educational booths and other exhibits will give you insight on how you can "Be The Change."

St. Louis Earth day is a non-profit group with a mission to make every day an Earth Day. Enjoy the day and remember that the planet belongs to all of us. Protect it.
