St. Louis, Missouri: The Best City in the Midwest

T.K. Moyer
Traveling to the Midwest USA any time in the near future? I would recommend that you visit the best city in the Midwest: St. Louis, Missouri. St. Louis, Missouri is a city rich in tradition and heritage and offers the casual visitor plenty of things to do and see. For families on vacation, St. Louis, Missouri offers plenty of family activities and things you can do together. These are my five things that make the best city in the Midwest St. Louis, Missouri.

Great Activities. Whether you want to visit a fine museum like the St Louis Art museum, or go rent a convertible and drive along historic route 66 there is always something to do in St. Louis Missouri. Museums and driving not quite your thing? While in St. Louis MO, make sure and check out the famous arch, I am truly inspired every time I see this piece of architecture. One activity I would highly suggest to you is a Mississippi river cruise. Take this cruise and you will feel like Huck Finn himself, this was a favorite activity for my children.

Great Food. St. Louis Missouri is well known for it's barbeque. For the ultimate in St Louis Barbeque you have to try Pappy's Smoke House. Pappy's is a down home barbeque joint that offers the best in your favorite pork barbeque. Not into barbeque? Try Niche. Niche is a elegant restaurant that will leave you wanting more. When dining in Niche you will certainly feel like you are in a big city restaurant but in reality your in one of the best cities in the mid west. Niche was rather pricey, and I was glad to have not taken my children due to the quiet atmosphere. For other great restaurants make sure and ask a local which restaurant is their favorite.

Great Sports Teams. St. Louis, Missouri has one of the most historic baseball teams in the St Louis Cardinals. Cardinals games are world renowned because of their fans and the enthusiasm St. Louis Missouri has for their beloved team. St. Louis Missouri is also home to the NHL's St. Louis Blues, as well as the NFL's St. Louis Rams.

Great Hotels. The best city in the Midwest USA has to have some of the best hotels. While in St. Louis make sure and stay at one of their world class hotels. We stayed at The Millennium hotel which boasts 700 plus rooms that offer views of the city and the Mississippi river. If you are interested in a bed and breakfast check out Napoleons Retreat for an experience to truly enjoy.

Great History. As part of the Louisiana Purchase and also because of its centrality within the United States, St Louis is a city of rich culture and diversity. While in St. Louis Missouri check out the Missouri History Museum to learn about the adventures of Louis and Clark, the mighty Mississippi river, and it's famous arch.

All of this and more is why I say St. Louis Missouri is truly one of the best cities in the Midwest USA.

I've thought about moving to St. Louis out of college. Definitely would relocate there... even if I like the Cubs (why am I such a masochist?) haha.

I love St. Louis. Our family vacations growing up were always either to St. Louis (Cardinals games, zoo, botanical gardens, and fried ravioli!) or to KC. Thanks for the great article!
