The St. Louis Rams announced today that former New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will replace Jim Haslett as head coach. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Spagnuolo has agreed to a four year deal worth about 12 million dollars.

The Giants chose Steve Spagnuolo as their defensive coordinator in 2007. Prior to his arrival, they were ranked 25th in the NFL in defense. Just one year later they ranked 7th. Defense was a large factor in the Giants 2008 Super Bowl win over the undefeated New England Patriots. Tom Brady was sacked five times and the Patriots were held to only 14 points.

Scott Linehan was fired after the Ram's 0-4 start to the season. Jim Haslett became the interim head coach and led the Rams to a 2-10 record, finishing 2-14 and second to last in the NFC. St. Louis is 5-27 during the past two seasons and hasn't had a winning season since 2003.
