NFC West Hinges on Battle Between St Louis Rams & Seattle Seahawks

Todd Jacobs
The St Louis Rams have their work cut out for them when they travel to Seattle to play for the NFC West title against the Seattle Seahawks January 2nd. The Seattle Seahawks has a decided home field advantage in this game with their 12th man, the Seattle Seahawks fans in Qwest Field.

Seattle Seahawks Defense vs St Louis Rams Offense

Pass defense is the Seattle Seahawks weakness and Sam Bradford is a good enough passer to take advantage of this team. Pete Carroll has turned over many players on this defense but Lofa Tatupu has picked up his pace of late. David Hawthorne and Lawyer Milloy have also been steady this season for the Seattle Seahawks defense as the season comes to a close.

Sam Bradford is no slouch as a the St Louis Rams overall number one NFL Draft pick. He threw for 289 yards when these two teams met in October. One of Bradford's favorite targets in the game was Steven Jackson who had 54 yards receiving to go along with his 70 yards rushing.

Jackson stole the show in the first game and it will make sense if the Seattle Seahawks defense keys on him in this game. The Seattle Seahawks defense and the St Louis Rams offense are push. Neither team has an advantage in this game.

Seattle Seahawks Offense vs St Louis Rams Defense

Matt Hasselbeck struggled on the road against the St Louis Rams in their October battle and in this game he will face them on his home field. Hasslebeck has been a tough quarterback to measure this season and he has consistently baffled the prognosticators.

The running game of the Seattle Seahawks has failed to pick up this season with the addition of Marshawn Lynch to back field. On the ground the Seattle Seahawks are averaging 85 yards per game and there is no signs of improvement as they close out the 2010 NFL season.

The St Louis Rams defense has picked up their pace as the season comes to a close. Their defense against the pass has been solid but nothing special. The St Louis Rams pass defense is allowing 224 yards through the air which is average for most NFL defenses.

The run defense for the St Louis Rams is also average. They are allowing 113 yards per game on the ground and against a weak running game such as the Seattle Seahawks they should be able to contain them. The St Louis Rams defense has the edge over the Seattle Seahawks offense.
