St Maarten: A Guide To the Best Beaches

Jason Ward
A couple of months ago I wrote an article on the best restaurants and casinos on the island of St Maarten/St Martin (Click here for it), and now I have decided to write another one on their beautiful awe inspiring beaches that I have had the pleasure of visiting.

Orient Bay

Located on the French side Orient Bay is definitely one of the nicest beaches on the Island, stretching at least 2 kilometers (1 1/2 Miles approx) in length and the activities are endless, ranging from Jet Ski, Kite-Surfing, Sail Boating, water trampoline and so many more. Crowded all week round with various types of people but mostly foreigners, there are always nice people to make friends with and hang out. There are a vast amount of bars and restaurants along the beach and they are all nice to check out with their own specialties. Another feature of this beach is that about a quarter of the beach is a nudist beach which you should check out if you are into tanning naked, but just know that if you are out to see cute nude girls you should look somewhere else as about 90 percent of the nudist on this beach are older and don't have perfect bodies if you know what I mean.

Mullet Bay

Although quieter and less populated as Orient Bay, Mullet Bay is beautiful with white sand crystal clear water, it is the perfect place to just relax with your spouse or friends, it has one local bar on the whole beach so it is a lot less commercial as some of the other beaches. It is a great spot to go skin diving and snorkeling as there are a lot of different varieties of fish and sea life. It is located on the Dutch side of the island right after Maho.

Bai Rouge

Located on the French side near Marigot, this quaint and secluded beach is very pretty and a favorite for the locals, worth checking out if you want to get a taste of the local flavor of the island and also worth it for the gorgeous water and sand.

Great Bay

This commercial beach is located in the Dutch City called Philipsburg, and runs alongside the main walking street called Front Street. It is a very long beach and there are a lot of activities you can do which include Jet Skiing, Snorkeling, Kayaking, and even sailboat races, it is very popular among the tourist and on a day when the cruise ships are docked there will be literally hundreds of people, but on off days it is not so crowded and a great place to spend the day.

Hope this helps.

I love writing and I'll do a review on pretty much anything if it sparks my interest.  View profile
