Kick up your cowboy boots in Denver this year at the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Follow up with a visit to the Denver Zoo's Serpent Festival where the whole family can learn about snakes up close and personal. Finish St. Patrick's Day enjoying Celtic culture with the Denver Brass. And if you just can't wait for March 17th, enjoy a bit o' the Irish at the Gobs O' Phun St. Paddy's Day Celebration the night before.

The 45th Annual Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade

The 2007 St. Patrick's Day Parade theme is "Irish Roots and Cowboy Boots", honoring the many Irish pioneers and miners who helped settle Denver and surrounding area. Known as the biggest St. Patrick's Day parade west of the Mississippi, this is an event everyone can enjoy. If you can't see it in person, you can watch the parade on Denver's WB2 (Channel 2).

When: Saturday, March 17, 2007 beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Where: Parade starts at 27th and Blake Streets in lower downtown Denver - south on Blake Street to 17th Street; turn west to Union Station; turn north on Wynkoop; and end behind Coors Field

Who: Lots of floats, high school marching bands, pipe bands, Irish step dancers, horses and stagecoaches, clowns, and El Jebel Shriners

St. Patrick's Day Serpent Festival

In honor of St. Patrick driving all the snakes out of Ireland, the Denver Zoo is showcasing several species of snakes. Snakes are an often-misunderstood species, so this is your chance to learn more about them in a safe and fun environment. Kids can make their own snake souvenir to take home while everyone enjoys Irish musical entertainment.

When: Saturday, March 17 and Sunday, March 18, 2007

Cost: Adults are $9.00; seniors 65+ $7.00; kids 3-11 are $5.00; under 2 get in free

Denver Brass - Brass, Bagpipes, & Co.

Formed in 1981,the Denver Brass, Inc. has fourteen professional brass musicians, one of the largest of its kind in the world. Every year, they give more than 150 performances ranging from beautiful Celtic to sassy Latin to the sounds of Big Band music. Their recordings are sold worldwide.

The St. Patrick's Day performance is "more than just a Celtic or Gaelic concert" (denverbrass.org). You'll see beautifully costumed Irish and Scottish dancers and watch championship fiddlers. Along with fantastic lighting and pageantry, you'll listen to bold and beautiful brass, drums, and bagpipes. It's a sold-out show every year.

When: March 15, 16 and 17 at 7:30pm and March 18 at 2:30pm

Gobs O' Phun St. Patrick's Day Celebration

Get warmed up for St. Patrick's Day the night before with Gob's O' Phun. According to their website, Gobs O'Phun is "an Irish/Scottish acoustic folk band" comprised of two brothers and one brother-in-law. They sing traditional Celtic pub songs and banter with the audience, but keep it clean for the whole family. They are well-known and well-loved on the Denver Irish Pub circuit.

When: Friday, March 16, 2007

    Serpent Festival.....NOT. I hate snakes and don't think I misunderstand them at all. I'm just scared to death of them!!!! But the St. Patricks festivities sound fun!
