"Going Green For St Patrick's Day" is an event that is going to portray how to live a lifestyle that reduces ones impact on Maine's land and water resources. The event will be take place at the York Public Library on March 15th, from 10am-2pm. There will be demonstrations on hand from a number of different organizations showing how to keep water clean, keep an environmentally friendly home and garden, and explain how people can be more energy efficient.
There will be children's activities such as seed planting and story time as well as games and crafts. Food will be sold by Borealis Breads. Free coffee and tea will be provided by Dean's Beans and Portsmouth Health Foods. Let the kids do a craft or play a few games, or color while you attend one of the many presentations and demonstrations from speakers such as Bill Lord, a solar power advocate, Gary Stevens, from the York Water District, and Jodi Castallo, Maine NEMO coordinator. A few of the topics they will be speaking on are Preventing Non-Point Source Pollution at Home, Solar power and letting the sun do the work, and Adventures of a watershed patrol.
So before you enjoy some green eggs and ham, green cupcakes, green beer and put on your leprechaun hat, skip over to Wells and take the opportunity to "Go Green" and partake in some educational activities. Maine is a beautiful state, known for it's green and blue colors. From the vast and rich forests to the beautiful blue oceans, it is important that we keep things looking clean and healthy. Maine is considered the vacation state because people from out of state may be coming from smog filled, noisy cities, and are looking for a quiet and peaceful state to rest in, one that focuses on the great outdoors. However, don't just keep it clean for the tourists. Keep in clean for REAL Mainers. Fisherman, Farmers, gardeners, etc. Have a fun and educational St Patrick's day, and please do not drink and drive.
