1. The St. Patrick's Day Parade
As the oldest and most popular parade in New York City, the St. Patrick's Day parade was first held in 1776 by Irish military men who were working in the colonies. As each year passed the parade grew becoming New York's largest having over two million people tune in via television. The parade route runs down 5th avenue and, typically, has over 150,000 marchers. Unlike many parades, large floats are rarely seen due to the fact the parade focuses on Irish heritage, music, and dance. Marching bands are one of the more popular entrants. This combination creates a unique setting this is a must see whether in person or on television.
