St. Patrick's Day Party Idea: Green Jell-O Shots

g christine
This St. Patrick's Day, if you plan to throw a party for your friends, why not delight them with green Jell-O shots? What's more festive on this Irish holiday than these green vodka-infused treats? This article will show you the ins and outs to making perfect Jell-O shots.

What You'll Need to Make St. Patrick's Day Green Jell-O Shots

1 Large box of Lime Jell-O Mix (any green Jell-O flavor will do)

Vodka, Rum, Everclear, or your choice of spirits

2 cups of boiling water

Cold water

The amount of cold water and alcohol will depend on the proof of the particular spirit you are using. Choose a type of alcohol with no color, or your shots may not turn out the green color you are expecting. The proper ratio of cold water to the proof of your chosen spirits will ensure proper setting of your Jell-O shots.

For 100 to 150 proof alcohol, use 6 ounces of cold water to 10 ounces of alcohol. For using 80 to 100 proof, use 10 ounces water to 6 ounces alcohol. For 30 to 50 proof, use 3 ounces cold water to 13 ounces alcohol.

Making Your St. Patrick's Day Green Jell-OShots

To make your Jello shots, boil 2 cups of water in a pot. Open the package of green Jello, and place it in a large mixing bowl. Pour the boiling water over the dry Jello powder. Stir the Jell-O and boiling water until the powder is completely dissolved.

Next, add your cold water and alcohol into the mix while it is still hot, and stir it in well.

While the mixture is still cooling, pour the Jello into shot glasses, and refrigerate. Most people won't have enough shot glasses just lying around the house, so there are a few other methods to make your Jell-O shots.

Presenting Your St. Patrick's Day Green Jello Shots

Here are some ways to present you Jell-O shots if you won't be using shot glasses.

You could try pouring the Jello into ice cube trays, or mini muffin tins. I'm not sure how you would go about getting the shots out without making a mess, so you may want to experiment before your St. Patrick's Day party if you plan to use this method.

You could use champaign glasses as well. The small flute glasses might look nice, especially for the ladies. You can provide spoons too to make eating the Jello shots easier if necessary.

Another method to present your Jell-O shots is to make cubes or other shapes, and place them on a serving tray or dish. Try cooling the Jell-O in a wide, flat pan or cookie sheet. The Jell-O should be about an inch or so deep. When it's cooled, cut the Jell-O into small squares. If you have a small shamrock shaped cookie cutter, you can even make cute little shamrock shaped green Jell-O shots to fit the Irish nature of the party.

If you're not into making your Jell-O shots pretty, you can always use small paper cups to make the shots. Remember, Jell-O shots contain a fair amount of alcohol. Be safe and responsible, and have a lot of fun!
