St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawling in Reno, NV

Don Lee
"On St. Patrick's Day, everyone turns Irish," is an old saying. There are places in Reno, Nevada that honor their Irish heritage every day and still manage to celebrate Ireland's favorite son to the limit once a year. You can go to Fitzgerald's in downtown and hear the music, play the games, eat the buffet and only make one stop. Or, if you call a cab, you can go "pub crawling" and visit the authentic Irish pubs that celebrate the holiday as they do in the old country. Personally, I like to do both. Since Fitzgerald's is so popular, I shouldn't need to tell you much about it. However, the four authentic Irish pubs I like to visit might be more to your liking. They sure are to mine.

Foley's Irish Pub

They're located at 3655 S. Virginia. Their phone number is 775-829-8500. On St. Patrick's Day, they have live entertainment from bagpipe players (it's not only a Scotland instrument, you know). They serve green beer, colcannon, shepherds pie, sausage and mashed potatoes, Irish egg rolls, corned beef and cabbage and fish 'n chips all day long. The food is great and entirely authentic. For the past few years, Foley's Irish Pub has invited Irish step dancers to entertain on St. Patrick's Day. It's a great time whether you really are Irish or just want to be for the day.

Napper Tandy's Irish Pub.

They're located at 541 E. Moana. Their phone number is 775-826-1950. Napper Tandy's is owned by Noel Foley, who also owns Foley's Irish Pub. Not having a kitchen, their menu is smaller, but features corned beef and cabbage as well as shepherd's pie. Their juke box plays all Irish music all day long. Napper Tandy's Irish Pub has step dancers and green beer, too.

Paddy and Irene's Irish Pub

They're located at 1218 Victorian Ave. Sparks, Nv. Their phone number is 775-358-5484

With every drink you can get a free corned beef sandwich. Performing live will be the "Whiskey Dents." The pub is decorated with traditional Irish decorations and loaded with charm from the old country.

Shea's Tavern

They're located at 715 S. Virginia in Reno. Their phone number is 775-786-4774.

The decorations are traditional Irish and so is the food. Corned beef and cabbage will be served until they run out or everyone is stuffed. They have live music and a large selection of traditional Irish drinks to delight you. You can order Irish coffee, green beer, or an Irish Car Bomb ( it's made with Guinness, Irish whiskey and a shot of Baileys.)

If pub crawling is what you like, then Reno and St. Patrick's Day are made for you! The food, the drinks and the music are straight from Ireland, the company is great, and you'll have an unforgettable evening. But please, take a cab. Don't drink and drive.

the only problem with being in the state for st patrick's day when you're actually from ireland is that all the people think you're faking the accent. and the green beer. not good times. and we dont eat corned beef and cabbage together in ireland. but to all those that have ever spoke to, seen, heard about, or drank with an irishman, CHEERS!!!

I know it's silly, but I love St. Patrick's Day (I'm about 15% Irish, haha). Great article.

I had to laugh at this one. Even my wife, who's English and had to live with the nonsense of the IRA bombings, wants to be Irish on St Paddy's Day. Sounds like a fun night for sure.
