St. Patrick's Day Treats for School Aged Children

Lisa Riggs
Children love the fun and festivity of St. Patrick's Day. With the students decked out in Green, most elementary schools enjoy parties, St. Patrick's Day themed stories, movies and crafts. Give your child a little extra treat from home this year. These simple and inexpensive treats can easily be tucked into a backpack or lunch box to make St. Patrick's Day just a little bit more special.

St. Patrick's Day Treats For School Aged Children: St. Patrick's Day Gram. Cut a large shamrock shape out of a piece of green construction paper. Using a black magic marker, write a few lines to your child about how proud you are of the great job they are doing in school this year and how much you love them. Scotch tape a lollipop or a piece of chocolate to the St. Patrick's Day Gram to make the treat even sweeter!

St. Patrick's Day Treats For School Aged Children: Chocolate Coins. Representing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that the leprechauns need to guard, your child will love having these delicious chocolates to enjoy after lunch and share with a few friends.

St. Patrick's Day Treats For School Aged Children: Stickers. Visit your local stationary or discount department store for a wide variety of St. Patrick's Day themed stickers. Put a sheet or two of shamrock, leprechaun, four leaf clover or pot of gold stickers in your child's backpack. Chances are they will find their way all over a folder or notebook before coming home!

St. Patrick's Day Treats For School Aged Children: Shamrock Sugar Cookies. Use your shamrock shaped cookie cutter to make a batch of sugar cookies after your child goes to bed the night before. Use vanilla icing and green sprinkles or sugar crystals to decorate. Hide them in the pantry or the breadbox until the next morning. Put several cookies in a plastic bag and tie with a green ribbon. Your child will be expecting the usual lunch and will have a pleasant surprise when opening their lunch box.

St. Patrick's Day Treats For School Aged Children: Green Pens and Markers. Make up a small goodie bag with green pens, markers, erasers and St. Patrick's Day themed pencils. Your local dollar store should carry all of these items for very little cost. You can put all of these items in a new green pencil case along with the holiday stickers.

St. Patrick's Day Treats For School Aged Children: Green Lunch Food. Surprise your child with as many green items as you can think of for their lunch box. Granny Smith apple slices, celery sticks, cucumber slices are all healthy foods that fit perfectly into the St. Patrick's Day theme! You can also add a few drops of green food coloring in vanilla pudding for a fun and easy dessert.

St. Patrick's Day Treats For School Aged Children: Green Scrunchies Or Hair Barrettes. Purchase green hair scrunchies for your daughter with long hair or quickly make a pair of St. Patrick's Day barrettes. Take a wide length of holiday ribbon and make a bow. Use your hot glue gun to securely attach it to a hair barrette or alligator clip. You can adorn your daughter's hair with them before school or tuck them into her backpack or gym bag to find later.
