St. Pattack

St. Pattack is an action brawler made by Flash animation technology and created by Newgrounds.com programmer Casper Smith (Phantasmagor). Voice artist work was credited to Newgrounds.com users andy dennis (andyopus) and Joshua Tomar (TomaMoto). Artwork for the creation was credited to Chris Gianelloni (LiLg). Music for the submission was credited to thatcomposerguy. St. Pattack was submitted to Newgrounds.com on March 16, 2010, just in time for St. Patrick's Day, and won a Daily 2nd Place award on March 18, 2010.

Game Background

In the old Irish land, vast snake populations and thieving leprechauns cause trouble for the Irish denizens. One day, from across the sea, St. Pattack arrives to save the land. Take on the role of St. Pattack as you fight through Irish-themed environments against enemies like snakes and leprechauns while collecting gold along the way. defeat the two bosses successfully to be the ultimate hero.

Controls

Use keyboard arrow keys to move and jump.
Press A to attack
Press S to perform a special attack. This option is available upon the virtual consumption of dark beer.
Press forward twice and A to perform a dash attack.
Press down twice to drop off ledges.

Gameplay

When you begin, you will be given the option to choose between two difficulty levels, easy or hard.

Enemies will attack from both sides of the screen. You can move in a two-dimensional fashion. Fight off the enemies as they approach to avoid being damaged.

At the top right hand corner of the screen, you can view the number of lives you have, the amount of gold needed to advance to the next arena, and the number of dark beers needed to activate the special attack. Above St. Pattack's head is his health bar that will go down as he takes damage. Replenish decreased health by eating healthy things.

Drink dark beer to gain power and the ability to perform a special attack. Eat potatoes for good health. Eat stew for even better health. Collect coins to add to your wealth.

Once you have collected the number of gold coins needed to advance to the next stage, simply follow the arrows to continue your adventure to save the Irish land. As you progress through the adventure, you will encounter a greater degree of difficulty and different landscapes to fight in. You will also need to collect a greater number of gold coins to advance the higher up you get. Complete all of the levels and fight off the two bosses to complete the entire adventure.

Game Review

St. Pattack is a fun little action adventure that provides a moderate amount of entertainment. The St. Patrick's theme is a nice touch, and the music helps add to the submission's appeal. A wider range of attacks and upgrades would be great future improvements.

St. Pattack scores a 7/10 for providing a good amount of entertainment.
