Stadium High School Wins TPS Championship Races

(
Stadium High School Tiger boys and girls cross country team continue to make progress. With the rain falling and the temperature gradually dropping there was no stopping the Tigers from dominating the competition at the TPS championship races held at Wright Park. In a race that featured five schools and 54 runners, sophomore Emily Coic (20:24) ran in pack with juniors Megan Tracy (20:29), Carey Lyons (20:37) and senior Eline Cove (21:00). The four would lead from the front the entire race, crushing the field with ease.

"Our coaches told us to stay together until that last 800 and then go all-out at the end," said Cove. "We do 800 intervals on this course a lot, so we were used to it. We pushed each other taking turns leading."

"We have been working on running as a cluster, rather then getting into gaps within the team. We are working on four and five runners," said Stadium coach Kim Muenz. "Today we were just calling out the kids' names, and they would lead for an 800 interval. Cove broke a personal record today because she was pushed to the front."

The Stadium boys would step to the line and duplicate the winning performance. Junior Tyler Graff (17:23) came in first out the field of 69, breaking lose from the pack early, ultimately running a personal record. Trailing only twelve seconds behind, coming in second was teammate senior Tyson Duckett (17:35) Foss High School junior Sandy Dittell (17:41) would respectfully come in third.

"This is my first win of the season," Graff said. "My coach told me to raise my knees and pull my arms back. This week I just worked on my long distance running to get my upper body and legs strong."

"We are just happy with the progress the guys have been making" Stadium assistant coach Sam Anderson said. "Seven of our top runners today ran their personal best. We just work them hard in practice and these are great results."
