Stained Glass Ship

A Valued Relic of Needier Times

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

Sailing before a sun-setting sky
And across a sea of cut shards
Gathered and held by once molten lead
The broad muslin sheets are pushed by imagined wind
And the hull tossed by an unmoving sea.
Never to come about into the sun
Remaining in motion and immobile
Until human choice or catastrophe strikes
And it's passively illuminated life is done.

Stillness in motion is not always
An oxymoronic notion.
Flowingly fixed with rolling waves
Suggested and crafted
Not to deceive, but to create
To be seen
And appreciated
By the lucky cash-strapped land-lubber
Who found this leaden opaque lens
At a thrift store in a past being
When some balance for inadequate funds
Was the good fortune of keeping eyes open
For seeing.

Do you ever feel the joy that the past owner had when you buy one of those pre-loved gems? They somehow feel happier to me than brand-new items. Thanks for sharing your treasure.
