Stalker Arrested at CBS Studios Looking for Shawn Johnson

Deborah Oakes, NPS
A stalker showed up at the Dancing with the Stars studios looking for Shawn Johnson. He had guns and thinks he and Shawn will make a great couple. Five days before Robert O'Ryan was found at the studios, he was stopped in Alabama for his driving. He admitted at that time that what he was doing was a little crazy but that he thought he and Shawn could be very happy together. He was headed to California to meet her.

"I know if sounds a little bit crazy, but my, uh, intuition tells me that we're gonna have a beautiful relationship together," O'Ryan told the policeman. "I'm meeting her there and, uh, I'm going to try to get her to marry me," he said.

He was issued two tickets in Alabama. One ticket for no insurance and the other for an expired license plate. See video from the dash cam at the stop. After the stop, O'Ryan proceeded to California.

O'Ryan was an Olympic hopeful himself before an injury derailed him. According to those who knew him, he became depressed when he wasn't able to continue on the Olympic rowing team. He is a 34 year engineering graduate who drove from his home in Florida to California to meet with Johnson. His neighbor in Florida said that O'Ryan didn't associate with very many people.

When he arrived in California, he jumped the fences at the CBS studios where Dancing with the Stars was rehearsing. Security guards stopped him. He told them he was there to see Johnson. The officers called her and she said she didn't know him. He then changed his story and said he was there to see Steve-O. And again, the police checked with Steve-O and his people didn't know O'Ryan.

At the time of his arrest, he had a shotgun and Colt 45 handgun. Both of them were loaded. He also had duct tape, love letters, zip ties and Johnson memorabilia. He vowed to be with Johnson "no matter what." He remains in custody on $220,000 bail. If convicted of stalking, which is a felony and 2 misdemeanors of carrying firearms in a vehicle, he faces up to four years in prison.

Meanwhile, Johnson has a restraining order that protects her, her parents and Mark Ballas, her dancing partner. She also has a new bodyguard that is an off duty police officer. Her mother states that, Johnson "is in fear of her life, she is extremely upset by this incident and her entire family and those around her are all extremely concerned and fearful that the Respondent [O'Ryan] might try to kidnap her or harm her in an effort to make good on his statements," the documents said.

The 17 year old gold medalist has told Access Hollywood she has decided not to talk about the incident. Johnson said, "It's hard not to take the outside stuff and have it affect you during practice." A tall order for a small person but she has proven herself in challenges before.

Stalkers are scary. Shawn Johnson seems to be a wise young gal. Yes, she has proven herself in challenges before. This is a good recap of that situation.

A lot of athletes go bonkers once their careers are finished. They don't know what to do with themselves. They don't know how to become 'civilians.'

This is a really professional-sounding summary of a news event. Terrific!

Great news recap. I'm sure Shawn is relieved.

Stalkers are such pitiful and sick people.
