With me all of you can relate.
It was early in the morning,
My phone was busily ringing.
I took the call as usual,
What I heard though was unusual.
I had been expecting an important call,
But this unwanted call made me stall.
Instead of conversing, I became the listener,
A sweet voice went : "Hi ! It's the Inquirer.
Hope your morning has been good,
We also have a promotion that is good.
You can sign up for issues in bundle of seven,
We have customer service twenty-four seven."
She said the whole thing without breathing,
That sure gave me an uncomfortable feeling.
A minute later again rang the phone,
This time I answered with a higher tone.
"Hi !" said the lady : "It is Ms. Spencer,
I am your daughter's dance teacher."
I was kind of embarrassed,
Made sure she didn't feel harassed.
That was the call I was waiting for,
The earlier distraction was so uncalled for.
Had more conversations throughout the day,
It started to become an interesting play.
One said : "Hope the day has been doing you justice,
We are conducting a survey for the practice."
After going through the long commentary
I was told the participation would be voluntary !
Everyday is pretty much the same,
I hang up after giving excuses that are lame.
All of them offer service at nominal cost,
I am now staring to get totally lost.
One time I realized before long,
The person was calling from Hong Kong.
It was brought to light by the media,
A bunch of them also call from India.
Against me is it a global fight ?
They call me even at night !
They are addressing me by first name,
Third party is selling info, isn't it a shame.
This is sheer invasion of privacy ,
In my own home I'm the victim of piracy.
Once left me a message with a number to call,
That was a trap in which I was destined to fall.
Again I was offered a promotion,
I immediately ended the conversation.
After this I can no longer chill,
I don't have to listen to their spill.
I know telemarketers are also people,
They too have to put food on the table.
Still no matter how major an undertaking,
I will call it "stalking through talking."
This kind of torture cannot go on forever,
Need to come up with an idea that is clever.
I have gone through a whole list of gadgetry,
I also made the "Do Not Call List" registry.
Thank God for the Caller ID,
There is no more messing with me.
Now you will find me prepared,
I will not answer the calls scared.
My message has received the due clarity,
I have been able to restore my sanity.

Post a CommentYou need an answering machine. I usually start talking in French, or German, depending on my mood. They quickly hang up when I say" Bonsoir, allo allo, je ne me parle Anglais, allooooooooo" Ha ha. Always works. Great article.:)
Very good! I don't answer the phone if I don't know who it is... I hate to be bothered by telemarketers.
I love when telemarkerters call. They are so much fun to mess with. I know they are real people, trying to make a living, but dang, they are such easy targets! LOL!
Great poem! You are very creative to come up with poems out of such normal thing that everyone can relate to! I love it!
Very clever. I have a friend who loves to talk to telemarketers. They usually hang up on him.
I love caller ID!
I loved this poem, but I also really enjoyed reading the comments on it as well.
This is indeed a great job! Too true; I used to feel bad for them, after all, they're just tryin to make a living, like the rest of us. But most now are pushy and rude, so I coat 'em off early! I figure maybe if I hurt their feelings, they'll do themselves a favor and find another line of work!
Hey Donna, thats what I do LOL..its such a pain. They remove your name and sell it to a partner company so they can keep using it grrr. Good job Pen!
This was great, I'm sure everyone can feel this one!! Glad you restored sanity, caller ID is an awesome invention.
I'd tell you to try the do not call registry but it's a joke. They still call and when you try to ask them to take your name off of the list, they hang up on you before you get the words out. Now, I just don't pick up the phone unless caller ID indicates it is someone I know.
