September 5, 2008, is the date when Stand Up To Cancer will unite NBC, ABC, and CBS at 8:00 PM ET/PT (7:00 PM CST). Partnering with the AARP, AOL, Lee, Philips, Revlon, Saks Fifth Avenue, Stonyfield Farm, Steve Tisch, Major League Baseball and the Alliance for Global Good, Stand Up For Cancer is an unprecedented event that takes on cancer research in a way that was never seen before on the media level.

Since May 28, the collaborators at StandUp2Cancer have been beating the drum to alert the public to their efforts, and on 07/29 the organization finally revealed its current star studded lineup. To say that the 09/05 Stand Up To Cancer broadcast unites a who's who of Hollywood's and the sports world's elite is putting it mildly. Thus far there are Casey Affleck, Danica Patrick, Jennifer Aniston, Fran Drescher, Sallie Field, Christina Ricci, Lance Armstrong, Kirsten Dunst, Brian Williams, Elizabeth Edwards, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, American Idol David Cook, and Meryl Streep who will stand up to cancer. Even Marge and Homer Simpson have put their names on the guest list!

Commercials have been running virtually nonstop and such Hollywood greats as Larry David, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Keanu Reeves, Susan Sarandon, Ryan Seacrest and the cast of the Daily Show have lent their likenesses and voices to the cause Stand Up For Cancer has taken up.

The cause of StandUp2Cancer is dire - to say the least. The organizers reveal that cancer kills one person each minute of the day. Worldwide, the disease is attributed to six million deaths annually. Out of you and your two best girlfriends, one is likely to be diagnosed with the disease. Between you and your best bud with whom you go down to local neighborhood bar for a beer, you have a 50-50 chance each of coming down with cancer. This is no longer the disease that happens to others; it is the disease that happens in your family!

Led among others by Katie Couric and Ellen Ziffren, the September 5th broadcast of Stand Up To Cancer is a combination of raising awareness and raising funds for much needed research. Any monies raised are to be allocated under the watchful eyes of the American Association for Cancer Research.

You can get involved right now! Donations are accepted online, by mail and over the phone. Completely tax deductible, you may donate via the website, or you may donate $5 via your cell phone, simply by entering your cell phone number on the site. While you are sure to get countless requests for donations, this is one worth paying attention to. The life you save may be your own.

Best of all, 100% of public donations will go to cancer research. That's right: not to overhead, air time, hostess presents, or any of the myriad of other expenditures that have gotten other fundraisers in trouble. You donate, you directly fund cancer research. It's that simple.
