Standards for Normality

Stephanie Alford
If things were only slightly different
Than perhaps I would not feel this way
For each situation, there are set standards
That allow it to be held as valid
Without these standards
The said situation would not exist
If that much is true
Than is it possible
That if we met under different circumstances
Would we still feel the same?
In theory, love is such a complex emotion
Yet it is the one feeling that all mortals possess
Alongside of hatred
Which inevitably must be present
For the world to be in existence
For there must be both light and dark
Two contrasting elements
That must equal out to a balance
This being said
Is it better to be hated
Or acted towards with indifference?
I myself favor with hate
Simply for the fact that with hate
At least therein lies powerful emotions
As opposed to indifference
Which, in a sense, is no more than apathy
When one has feelings of apathy
Bestowed upon them
They cannot help but feel
Nothing more than the degrading feeling
Of complete abandonment
But if the standards are set
For every ideal situation
Than to harbor feelings of apathy
Would be of no importance
Because it would not exist

I've returned from my little emotional sabbatical. Much better now.  View profile
