Stanley Cup Series Tied 2-2 After Penguins Defeat Red Wings

It was a hockey night in Pittsburgh as over 17,000 cheering fans dressed in all in white and waving white towels, watched their team soundly defeat the Detroit Red Wings by a score of 4-2. Another 10,000 fans cheered their team onto victory watching the game on the big screen outside of Mellon Arena. This was the last game of the season for Penguin fans watch the game from the big screen outside of the Igloo. The remaining are broadcast on NBC and their executives will not allow the Penguins to broadcast the games on the JumboTron. The Penguin's win last night tied the series at two games each..

The NHL's leading scorer, Evengi Malkin was on fire again last night with one goal and one assist. Sidney Crosby and Jordan Staal are also credited with one goal and one assist each as part of a three goal scoring frenzy in the second period that led the Penguins to victory. Jordan Staal started the frenzy with a short handed goal. Shortly after, Evegni Malkin and Sidney Crosby were on the board with goals. Pittsburgh scored three goals in just 5:37 in period two. Marc Andre-Fleury was near perfect in the net with 37 out of 39 saves on the night. Chris Osgood had 27 our of 31 saves in goal last night. Tyler Kennedy also scored for the Penguins. Darren Helm and Brad Stuart scored the Red Wings two goals.

The series moves to Detroit on Saturday, June 6, for game 5 The Red Wings have proved to play extremely well on home ice and have a 10-1 playoff record in Joe Louis Arena. The Penguin's record has improved to 8-2 on home playoff ice. Saturday's game is bound to be intense and fast-paced. This is the second year in a row that Detroit and Pittsburgh are facing off in the playoffs. This is the first back to back match up since the Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders met in 1983 and 1984. Detroit's Kris Draper returned to the line up after recovering from a groin injury, however Pavel Datsyuk is still sidelined with an injured foot. The Penguin roster remains healthy. Game 6 will be played in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, June 9. The Stanley Cup will makes its first appearance this season in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Game 7 if needed is schedule for Friday, June 12, in Detroit.
