Staph Infections: Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus

The Deadly Epidemic in Schools and Hospitals

Denise
On the news I was terrified to hear of a new infection going around that has killed people in hospitals and schools. This virus is found on the skin and in the nose. The name of this virus is Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. It is a group of bacteria in your body tissues that is like a bunch of grapes. Hospitals are afraid of what it can do to them, because it is resistant to antibiotics. They can only apply medicine to the nostrils to keep it under some control. What has gone wrong in the world to bring on such a terrible disease that can easily take lives?

This grim reaper is creeping from state to state in search of new victims. Now we have to add staph infections to the bird flu epidemic, cancer, heart disease, HIV/aids, diabetes, global warming, food recalls, toy recalls, war and all other threats that plague our planet. We have all been taught how to disinfect, sanitize and be hygienic. Even if it is not taught at home (like a few of the wife swap families) it is on television at all times. The commercials show us what products we need to keep areas clean.

It is even discussed on some talk shows. It is impossible for anyone to not know unless they do not have a television. However, there is the radio and a television in doctor offices or libraries. With all of this promotion of clean and sanitation how was it possible for salmonella to be found in packaged products? This new staph virus should not be able to live within a fully sanitized environment where people practice sanitary habits.

The question is how many people practice these habits? There is no way to tell who does what. Did you know that viruses like this can be responsible for food poisoning and toxic shock syndrome? 1.2 million peopl get this deadly infection every year. This infection can get into your body through a wound on the skin. This infection lives already in the nose of over one quarter of the population, but it does not take lives.

Bacteria is a germ found in toilet bowls, seats and handles, phones, sponges, bathtub, kitchen sink, pet food dish, floor, garbage can, light switch, microwave, chopping board, childrens potty, infant changing table, door, remote control, the computer, dirty mops and everywhere germs can grow. Due to natural germs in the environment and peoples personal habits these germs can live.

Some people may look at a bum type person, and immediately believe that type could have bad habits. This could be true sometimes, but there are respectable people who travel everywhere. There is a good chance that the respectable people could have picked something up somewhere spreading it unknowingly. We should not forget the guy who traveled so many placed with a drug resistant case of tuberculosis (Michael Crichton).

It is vital for everyone to seek medical attention whenever a strange sick feeling comes. We are all different, and there are too many possibilities for numerous diseases. So, it is better to be safe than sorry. We should first make it a point to "know thy body" in what is normal and abnormal. Nevertheless, what good will it due in such a fast paced life? Many people have no time to deal with little things of importance when rushing to get the kids to school, and themselves to work. On top of that are the concern to get all those needs in the home, pay the bills, help with homework, welcome guests, make the meals, and do repairs.

There is hardly enough time to rest even with a night of restlessness. We rush because we must in order to maintain our lifestyle we've grown accustomed to. Others rush to reach that lifestyle. Those afraid to stay home from work out of fear of no pay, or neglecting some business responsibilities would come at all times. Some employees have to be persuaded and forced to go home to rest when ill.

This fear could be a contribution to the arrival of this new virus. In terms of stress, and a convenient diet of fast foods in many homes can be spread by its members. It has been said that stress and poor diet can bring on disease. It has also been said that when ill it is crucial to get rest. How can one get rest in a life where you must rush and work even when ill? There is another possibility to the illness. On the news, the locker room in schools are under suspicion for how the virus has begun. As a former student, I know about a terrible habit that happens in every school. I never knew why, but there are people who are disrespectful to others.

Meaning, the school laboratories where most students go are disgusting. it was so disgusting that I would have to avoid it altogether. I found where the teachers laboratory was, and secretly used that one. It was cleaner. Strangely, 95% of the student body did not mind using a disgusting bathroom. These students were people of all social class levels. Moreover, these same practicec are done in many public restrooms. We cannot always depend on the custodians to fix a problem quickly when there are other work to be done. Do not forget lay offs in public school systems can reduce the amount of help.

The germs caused by disrespectful people can fester for a while. Then, when the custodian get around to it to clean it may not be seriously disinfected. Everyone has their own germs to contribute by bad habits, eating after others, stress and other factors. This monster known as the staph infection has come to places that is congested with people. Within in those people lay the cause of the infection.

The only thing we have to do is use hand sanitizers whenever going out in public, keeping ones hands to oneself, and practicing hygiene. Basically, the only thing one can do is pray, try to be safe and wait this thing out. sanitization, and the continual washing of hands with soap and water can help. Kevin Trudeau believes that people should have a filter on the water we put on our bodies since it too is full of bacteria. It is time now that we care a lot about life, and practice good habits.

Good article on this serious topic. Too many advanced antimicrobials are being prescribed along with the proliferation of antimicrobial hand sanitizers, hand soaps, etc.
