Star 104 Internet Radio - a Web site Review

Walter Kovacs
Star 104 is a great Web site for Internet radio. You can listen to 11 stations, all varying in content. There is a comedy station, which is my favorite.

Star104.net is basically a compilation of music and comedy acts. It plays more songs than you can count, and thousands of comedy sketches. Star 104 has very high-quality sound, as well as a social network.

On the social network, you can friend other listeners. You can also chat with them is a bar at the bottom of the screen very similar to the one the Facebook Web site has. You can upload pictures to your profile, customize your page, keep track of your points and rankings compared to the rest of the community. The website is simplistic as well and easy to navigate. It is nice looking, with a good color scheme.

The radio player runs in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Opera. It does not run in Safari 4, or at least not the PC version of Safari 4. The player looks very similar to Windows Media Player 10.

There is also a great points system where you can exchange points for prizes. The prizes range from Video Game Consoles to Wachovia Cash Gift Cards. All of these prizes are great, and all you have to do is listen to earn points. I have been listening every day for the last year, and didn't notice the points program until today. I was able to redeem my points for a $50 Wachovia Cash Gift Card. I love that all I had to do to win free money was listen to the radio! The ads pay for the points program, and considering you need a TON of points to get anything, the people who post the ads must make a killing.

I love this radio station. It helps me get by when I need some music. I don't want to spend money to fill up my iPod! Songs on iTunes costs $1.29! Anyways, with the Wachovia cash card, I can buy music for my iPod.

These radio stations are all great (except the one from the '80s, of course). Make sure to check out this Web site and make an account! If you don't make an account, you won't get any credit for listening. That credit is probably the number one reason I listen to this station. I mean, I do love the music and comedy, but I don't even hear that stuff when I leave my computer running at night to earn points.
