In Star Trek The Movie we meet a much younger cast than we are used to seeing.
The movie is based on the TV series of the same name.It was created in the mid 1960's by Gene Rodenberry. Since then, it has also become a series of books by a multitude of different authors. Other shows to have come from the Star Trek movie and TV series have included Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, Deep Space Nine and others.
Star Trek The Movie is the story of how James T. Kirk came to be a Starfleet officer along with Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Uhura, and of course Spock
The past was changed through time travel to bring us this version. The effect was stunning.
My daughter, Hubby and I just returned from an advance screening. We were delighted with the film and are already looking forward to seeing it again. There is a lot to like about this film.
At times the plot did lag but at times it dragged with the original TV series too. For the most part the film kept you pulled in and interested. The special effects were dazzling and well timed.
Chris Pine did an admirable job as James T. Kirk. I was not sure if Zachary Quinto would work as Spock. To me Leonard Nimoy is virtually irreplaceable. I really appreciated his appearance. But Zachary Quinto came through with flying colors as Spock in this version of Star Trek The Movie.
Zoe Saldana portrayed a very different Uhura. It was odd to see her cast this way. Nichelle Nichols always played her as a very classy lady. She was a cutting edge character when originally cast in the 1960's. Although Zoe Saldana did an excellent job, seeing the change in the character of Uhura will take some getting used to.
When it comes to bad guy Nero, you absolutely love to hate Eric Bana. He did a superb job. And I never would have recognized Winona Ryder as Spock's mother.
Ever since I was a young girl I have always been a fan of Star Trek. This film Star Trek The Movie promises and delivers well.
I wonder how quickly they will be able to come out with the sequel. I'm already waiting. In the meantime, I'll have to go back to see Star Trek The Movie one more time.

Post a CommentGreat review. As a writer who wrote for 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' & 'Deep Space Nine', I obviously have a bit of a bias - however that can also work against you - since you're so close to the material of the franchise. 'Star Trek 2009' remains a high point of the Summer of 2009 and is a 'Trek Triumph'.
Good little peek into the performances. I was wondering how well Quinto pulled off his role.
Didn't know they were offering an advanced screening. This movie is going to be HUGE. You did good with the review, didn't give a thing away!
Great review! I love Star Trek, and can't wait to see the new one.
Good review! It makes me want to see it (again) without giving away any of the surprises
Cannot wait to see it, here. Thanks
Well this makes me feel less concerned over the quality. It's a relief...can't wait to see it.
Our son liked it very much. Thanks for writing a review without spoilers.
Good review which satisfies my curiosity. I was never into this show.
