Star Trek Quotes: Spock's Words of Wisdom

Original Vulcan Wisdom by Spock

Rebecca Rosenburg
Spock is the first Vulcan character introduced in the original Star Trek series. Spock is from the planet Vulcan, whose inhabitants are taught from childhood to repress emotions and embrace the logical. Spock has a human mother and Vulcan father, and so the repression of emotions is a bit more difficult for him than other Vulcans. In embracing the Vulcan way of logic, Spock has spoken many words of wisdom. Here is some great Vulcan wisdom as imparted by Spock:

Being split in two halves is no theory with me, Doctor. I have a human half and an alien half at war with each other. Personal experience, Doctor. I survive because my intelligence wins, makes them live together. Your intelligence would enable you to survive, as well.
Episode: The Enemy Within

Curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want.
Episode: Errand of Mercy

Emotional, isn't she?
Episode: Journey to Babel

You may find that having is not so pleasing a thing as wanting. This is not logical, but is often true.
Episode: Amok Time

Logic informed me that under the circumstances, the only the only logical action would have to be one of desperation.
Episode: The Galileo Seven

Where there is no emotion, there is no motive for violence.
Episode: Dagger of the mind

You Earth people glorified organized violence for forty centuries. But you imprison those who employ it privately.
Episode: Dagger of the Mind

McCoy: Life and death are seldom logical.
Spock: But attaining a desired goal always is.

Episode: The Galileo Seven

I object to intellect without discipline; I object to power without constructive purpose.
Episode: The Squire of Gothos

Insufficient facts always invite danger.
Episode: Space Speed

Superior ability breeds superior ambition.
Episode: Space Speed

I have never understood the female capacity to avoid a direct answer to any question.
Episode: This Side of Paradise

Madness has no purpose. Or reason. But it may have a goal.
Episode: The Alternative Factor

Pain is a thing of the mind. The mind can be controlled.
Episode: Operation: Annihilate!

It is undignified for a woman to play servant to a man who is not hers.
