Star Wars Battlefield: Renegade Squadron (PSP) Weapons Guide: The Shotgun

Blast Away Your Online Buddies in One Hit with the Shotgun

The Shotgun in Star Wars Battlefield: Renegade Squadron (PSP) is a weapon capable of killing your enemies in one shot. This is very useful in multiplayer battles in both Infrastructure and Ad Hoc modes. In this guide, I will describe the Shotgun, suggest power-ups and other equipment to support this weapon, and warn you about its shortcomings. Then you decide whether you should equip this weapon in the ground battles.

The Shotgun is a weapon that fires a spread of five bolts per shot. It belongs to the Weapon 1 category in the "Equipment and Attributes" screen, and it costs your character 30 credits to equip it. It can carry up to six spare magazines of bolts, and each magazine holds 25 bolts. And compared to other weapons, the firing rate is very slow. But it makes up for this by being extremely powerful at close range.

It's not powerful enough alone, however. It can only take away two health bars from an enemy. To turn it into a potential one-hit killing machine, you should also equip the Rage Power Up (at a cost of 15 credits). Because the firing rate for the shotgun is so slow, you need to make every volley count. But how do you do that when the enemy's firing all over you? To unleash the shotgun's potential, you should learn how to roll effectively. First, activate your Rage just before you're about to engage in battle. When you're near an enemy, roll away in any direction from the enemy's shots. This will give you enough time to align your weapon's target with the lock on target on the enemy. This gives you the best chance to fire at the enemy.

Many enemies will die in one hit due to this Shotgun and Rage combination. To make this combination more effective in Conquest battles, consider adding Health Level 3 (30 credits) and Capture Speed Level 2 (25 credits). This will allow you to dive into weakly-defended command posts and quickly take out any enemies that are preventing you from capturing the post. By being aggressive like this, I was able to turn around a battle in Geonosis to my team's favor. And we were underdogs!

But using the shotgun in this manner may turn you into the underdog if you pick the wrong fight. This character setup is weak against fast characters, particularly those with the Incinerator. Fast characters can evade your shots and counter with their own very easily. This is particularly true for Incinerators, since you're very likely to be in their range. And, of course, you'll be exposed to opportunistic snipers. Furthermore, if your Rage runs out, your Shotgun loses its effectiveness, so you either have to run back to your command posts to instantly recharge your Rage or you have to draw out the battle against your foes.
