How does one improve upon a Star Wars based shooter in which the player may choose which faction he or she will fight for as well as which of several soldier classes sporting different weapons and specialties to take into battle? LucasArts answered that question when they released Battlefront II. Not only did they include new environments unique to Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith but they added new characters, (including Wookie warriors) streamlined the squad commands, added performance bonuses in the form of weapon upgrades, damage increases and playable jedi, improved the target lock-on feature and added bonus levels representative of both the original trilogy and the three prequels. As if that wasn't enough a massive and stunning series of space battles is also available. The player may choose to dog fight in a number of rebel or imperial craft, land on an enemy capital ship to wreak havoc from within or simply man a turret on your own ship and blast enemy fighters to smithereens. The new Galactic Conquest mode incorporates the new characters, new worlds, playable heros or villains and space combat into a series of battles you orchestrate and conduct to win control of the galaxy. Every decision you make affects the outcome for ill or good. However you decide to enter the Battlefront you will not be disappointed.
The accelerated Star Wars experience doesn't end there. Much like the playable jedi you will have the opportunity to fight using some of your favorite villains. Darth Vader, The Emperor and General Grievous just to name a few. Only one hero or villain is available on each world so you'll have to play 'em all with both factions to find out everyone who has been included. All the maps have individual qualities that make them all worth revisiting again and again and even the planets and maps that appear in the original Battlefront have subtle changes so as not to bore us repeat customers.
LucasArts has outdone themselves in grand fashion with Battlefront II. After taking 2nd place to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in last year's Video Game Awards it has continued to grow in popularity. A true classic in every sense of the word, this game gives fans a peek into the Star Wars universe like none they've ever had. This title's success certainly warrants an attempt at a third Battlefront. Even without the cross promotional benefit of a new movie Battlefront III is already destined to be a huge item. Hey LucasArts, GET TO WORK!!!
