LucasArts in planning to bring new life into their best-selling title, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed with the Ultimate Sith Edition DLC. Nearly a year after the original launch, the game will be receiving an expansion via DLC. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was released on the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 in addition to numerous handheld systems on September 16, 2008. Unlike most Star Wars games, The Force Unleashed features an original plot that is integrated into the canon storyline of the films. In the game, you play as the shrouded apprentice of Darth Vader in a period between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

LucasArts made sure that this isn't your typical licensed software that gets rushed out of the door. To ensure authenticity, the development team received helped from George Lucas in regards to the storyline of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Furthermore the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 version uses a high-tech game engine called Ronin.

The extra effort resulted in the fastest-selling video game based on Star Wars ever. This is a monumental feat considering the huge number of popular Star Wars games in the past. To take advantage of the game's popularity, LucasArts planned two downloadable expansions for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

The first is the Jedi Temple Mission Pack, which cost $9.99 on the Playstation Store and 800 Microsoft Points on the Xbox Live Marketplace. It features a mission that was cut from the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. In addition to exploring the Jedi Temple of Coruscant, you will also get new characters and costumes.

The second downloadable expansion will be far more ambitious. The Ultimate Sith Edition features an alternative storyline. At the end of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, the secret apprentice killed Darth Vader and took his place. The Emperor is now sending his new second-hand man to search and take out Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Ultimate Sith Edition will be available this fall on the Playstation Network of the Playstation 3 and Xbox Live Marketplace of the Xbox 360.

If you don't like digital distribution, LucasArts is also giving you the option to purchase the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall. The retail disc contains the original game, all the downloadable content and an exclusive level.

So while there aren't any big Star Wars video games this year, LucasArts will be keeping their fan base happy this fall with more Star Wars: The Force Unleashed content.
