It would allow me to play something to unwind and actually have some human interaction while doing so. Now I know George Lucas has made some gaffes in the Star Wars franchise, but I didn't think his grasp actually reached to the games, yet I feel that his fingerprints are all over this number.
My first warning when I got home that this game would be something a little less than good was a warning on the box. The warning stated that I would need a valid credit card and a monthly subscription to play this game. This put me off right away, but some of you may ask why I didn't notice this little warning at the store, because you need a microscope to find it. I figured that since the monthly subscription was only about $15 that I didn't have anything to worry about since I can afford $15. So figuring no harm no foul, I opened the package and installed the game.
This is where the second warning came in. Even though my computer far surpassed the maximum requirements (my cousin built my computer for me) this game did not want to install smoothly. I got warning after warning about graphics cards and processors even though mine are, at the moment, top-of-the-line. After about an hour fooling around I finally got it to install. I figured I was good to go and I set up my account to play.
Now here's another warning that didn't bother me, but may bother other players: beyond the subscription there are also other little fees. Like I said before, this didn't bother me and I proceeded with the game. Now one of the reasons I bought the game was that it allowed players to create their own characters and being the nerd I am, I wanted to create one that looked like me. I went through the whole process of making my character and making him a member of the Dark Side. I was about a minute into the whole game when the game crashed and number of messages about missing files came up.
I got angry and decided to go to the message board to figure out this problem. Apparently other people had had bugs with the game. At his point I was really angry and I no longer wanted to bother with the game after only having owned it for about three hours. I figured I was out about $35 and decided it was a good lesson for me to research a product before I bought it. I don't recommend this game for anyone, it's not worth it. Now to those who are wondering why I didn't discuss game play, well myself and apparently other people can never get far enough to discuss game play.
Don't buy this game.

Post a CommentI've never had a problem installing either. Played the game for 2 years up until the NGe then finally called it quits. Don't let SOE suck in your money. It was a amazing game that went to hell as SOE slowly destroyed it.
OH MAN, Do a chargeback. Seriously, don't give $OE the pleasure of keeping your money. The origianl game was great. I was an addict. Then they came out with the "Combat Upgrade" and it was so awful I had to quit. It was like a Star Wars themed, broken WOW. Horrible. I hear the devs took things to another level of disaster with the new NGE patch. Hard to blv its worse than the CU but....Anyways, be thankful. At least you didn't waste another hour trying to find a server with some semblance of a population.
Don't listen to the fanbois. You're not at all alone in having trouble installing and playing the game: it is a mess of bugs on both client and server, and has never worked as intended.
Raph Koster came up with a good design, but either he pitched it too high for the dev team (especially the db team) or they failed to perform. Either way, it was fun but buggy, then NGE came along and it became un-fun and ultra-buggy.
For MMOs it is always worth checking the game's forums in advance. In this case, the huge trainwreck in its community boards would have warned you off big time. But you're right: you should have been able to expect at least a functional executable...
I played the game for two years. Best game ever! Until the new updates. They killed the game. I played beta through gamestop in like 02 or 03 I really dont remember and loved it. But I dont understand why they did what they did to the game. It will be free sooner or later... Maybe then ill play it but for sure its not worth 15 bucks.
spoilt little kid wanting everthing instantly WOW may be more your style. nothing wrong installing this game personally in 3 years
Operator Error
No offense, but you must be a bit technically challnged to have this many problems... or your machine is not as good as you made it out to be.
However, as the above poster said you are better off spending your time playing something else. SWG is a truly awful game especailly since the horrible "New Game Enhancements" or NGE.
Consider yourself lucky. SOE is nothing but trouble both in terms of their products and their ethics. A year ago, they completely and without warning completely revamped the game virtually killing off a huge chunk of their playerbase and creating countless problems in terms of bugs and just a generally bad game. Count yourself lucky that you didn't give them any more money for this monstrosity.
Sorry you had problems installing the game and that you didn't get as far as actually playing. Sometimes it pays to do a little research on a product before a) buying and b) commenting.
"It has George's fingerprints all over it". Hmm, ok, this might come as a shock, but the game was developed by Sony Online Entertainment under license from Lucas Arts. The lil' beardy fella didn't do a jot of coding.
"beyond the subscription there are also other little fees." Pardon? Once you pay your subs that's it. There are no further fees for gameplay. Which 'other little fees' are you hinting at? You do realise that you get your first 30 days free? So if you don't like it after playing for 28 days you can cancel out and not get billed?
Just checked the box art and the credit card information, down there on the bottom right hand corner, is clearly visible. It's an online game, you do know that a lot of these need a monthly sub?
Go on, work out how to get your hardware set u
Are freakin kiddin' me. I have played this game for about 3 years and NEVER had a problem installing it. It could be that the computer you have might not be put together all that great.
