Star Wars Toy Review: Rebel Honor Guard

Maria
This figure is a Rebel Honor Guard from the original Star Wars movie, A New Hope. This is a particularly nice figure for a number of reasons. One reason is that they don't make many Rebel figures, and I believe that this is the first time that they have ever made a Rebel Honor Guard in the entire history of Star Wars merchandising.

This figure is available at any store that sells Star Wars toys. Personally, I had some trouble finding it although I haven't heard anything about it being a rare figure.

The overall appearance of this figure is very good. He doesn't have much paint applied to him though; the green of his suit and the black of his shoes are colored plastic. The sculpting of his body is excellent, the folds in his clothing are quite convincing. His face is painted of course, and the paint application is neat and clean. He also has a nicely designed face. He looks like he could be a real person and he's not cross-eyed like some of the Star Wars figures that have been released in the past.

As for poseability, he has a fairly good range of motion over most of his body. His head is ball jointed, but the helmet gets in the way of it moving fully. Luckily his helmet is removable. He has a full range of motion on his shoulders and elbows. His wrists can rotate, but do not bend back and forth as they're probably too small for that type of joint. He can also turn at the waist fully. One of the drawbacks to this figure is that the movement of his legs is restricted by the bottom of his shirt, and so they cannot move very far at the hips. Because of this restriction, it is impossible to put him into a crouching position. His knees have a full range of motion, as do his ankles, except that they are blocked every so slightly by the bottom of his pants legs.

The Rebel Honor Guard comes with a removable helmet, a Rebel Blaster Gun, and a staff. This figure also comes with a silver coin, a gimmick item. As for the helmet, it is rather hard to get it off of his head; it is a little trouble to do so. The chin strap tends to get stuck, and goes on and comes off only one way. He has a functioning holster in which to put the Rebel Blaster and the gun doesn't have any problem staying put, the blaster fits perfectly into it. Also, the figure can hold the blaster and it doesn't fall out of his hand. In addition, the holster is attached to the body of the figure and is not hanging from the belt. He also seems to stand well and I haven't had any problem with him falling over.

I like this figure a lot and it's going to be really hard not to buy multiples of him. I would definitely recommend buying this Rebel Honor Guard, especially since they don't make many Rebel Trooper figures, and because he's one of the better Star Wars figures. Some people may not like him very much because he could be considered bland, and perhaps because he's just a background character who had very little screen time. However, I do like him and I give him a 4.5 out of 5.
