Starbucks Closure List in Atlanta, Georgia

Will Losing Some of Atlanta's Starbucks Locations Impact Buying?

Starbucks closure list in Atlanta, Georgia: Starbucks has announced that they will be closing unprofitable stores across the country. In Atlanta, the most recent list, published by Action News WSB-TV (Channel 2), is as follows:

Vinings store on Paces Ferry Road in Atlanta
Roswell Road store at I-285 in Atlanta
Peachtree store at 1375 Peachtree S. in Atlanta
Georgia Aquarium store on Park Avenue in Atlanta
East-West Connector and Powder Springs store in Austell
Mall of Georgia II on Buford Drive in Buford
U.S. 80 and Mall Road store on Veterans Parkway in Dublin
Pleasant Hill Plaza store on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth
Gwinnett Mall on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth
Veterans Memorial Parkway and Buckner Boulevard store in Mableton
Macon Mall on Eisenhower Parkway in Macon
Bass Road and Starcadia Circle store in Macon
East-West Connector and South Cobb Drive store in Smyrna

From a personal standpoint, none of these Starbucks stores are on any of my normal routes to either work, shopping or other destinations. As for friends and family in the Atlanta area that I have talked to about this, it appears that most of them either pass other locations first on their daily routes, so they stop at those, or they frequent those locations that are the closest to their offices. Others, who are the real caffeine addicts in my family, visit BOTH on any given morning!

The Starbucks locations that I am personally familiar with on the list seem to fall into the category of being off the beaten path of Atlanta's most-traveled thoroughfares to the busiest office locations around town. It appears that those stores closest to locations like the Ashford-Dunwoody area, which several years ago was announced as the most congested area for business commuters, are not being closed. As another example, in the Forsyth County area where I live, north of Atlanta, there are two Starbucks stores within two miles of each other, both on the same exit off GA 400, but on opposites sides of the highway. The two intersections where these Starbucks stores are located are highly traveled routes for residents in this area to reach the highway to get to their offices and do not appear on the closing list.

As for me, I was glad to see that the two Starbucks stores I visit the most often are going to remain open. However, being the Starbucks lover that I am, if those stores had closed, I would have done my research to find the next closest one to me. I also spoke to my father-in-law about these closing as he is one of those Starbucks customers who makes at least three visits a day to his local store in a suburb of Texas where he lives now. They will be moving to Atlanta at the end of this year and I can tell you that if the store closest to their future residence was on this closing list, he most definitely would have found the next closes Starbucks store and frequented that one, no matter how much further he would have had to go!
