In the Wings of Liberty campaign, the Marine is introduced in the first mission 'Liberation Day'
The Marine in StarCraft 2 is particularly effective against the Protoss Immortal unit, and is benefitted greatly by the support of either Medics or Medivacs, and with their support can be an effective foil against many other troop types. Marines are weak against Colossi, deployed Siege Tanks and the High Templar's Psionic storm abilities. Marines can be weak against Zerg more than Protoss, and are typically slaughtered en-masse without healing.
