Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty - Most Anticipated PC Game of 2010

Life
Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty is a PC game that has been on every gamer's mind since Blizzard announced it as a work in progress a few years ago. There was much superstition and many fan based rumors that said SC2 would be released on time for the 2009 holiday season.

The truth is that Blizzard Entertainment had never officially set a release date, and all of this talk is merely speculation and rumors. In August of 2009, Blizzard Entertainment announced:

"Our mission is to develop games that deliver an epic entertainment experience. As part of that commitment, we will always take as much time as needed to ensure that our games and services meet the expectations of our players and the standard for quality that we set for ourselves as developers. As we work to make Battle.net the premier online gaming destination, we'll also continue to polish and refine StarCraft II, and we look forward to delivering a real-time strategy gaming experience worthy of the series' legacy in the first half of 2010."

From the last sentence of this announcement one can gather that they are aiming for a release date of Q1-Q2 2010. Blizzard has always been known to develop very balanced games and only release them when they, and the beta testers, are satisfied. Taking the time to ensure a quality game is released sounds good to me.

The original Starcraft is tagged as being one of the most original and influential real-time strategy games ever created, and I completely agree. This science-fiction real-time strategy game is the most successful game the genre has ever seen, selling well over 10 million copies worldwide since its release in 1998.

Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty will feature new units with new abilities, and a large variety of new maps. It should also be noted that as a method of enhancing the single player aspect, Blizzard Entertainment has decided to release Starcraft II as three different games; Wings of Liberty being the first and Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void being the expansions. Each game will be a separate story for the three races Terran, Zerg, and Protoss, respectively.

The great news for gamers everywhere is that the wait for Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty is almost over!
