StarCraft Strategies

StarCraft is a computer game developed by Blizzard, a California video game company. StarCraft the original is about 10 years old, and just recently StarCraft II was released. The original version had minimal video card, RAM, and CPU requirements. However, I would suggest using an NVIDIA video card for a more enjoyable experience, especially if you plan on playing both versions of the game, in addition to having more than the minimum memory requirements. StarCraft is known to work on many operating systems including Win95, Win2000, WinXP, WinVista, Win7, and MAC . StarCraft is an online game played by many and if you enjoy this series, you may also enjoy MMORPGs , or Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, which just means that you get to play with many players over the Internet.

Your command center is your most valuable piece, just like the "King" in a Chess game. Without it, you will have no resources and with no economy you'll surfer a slow and steady defeat. With that said, always remember to protect it above everything else. Use many SCVs to build several things simultaneously. Never use just one SCV, as this is inefficient in that it takes linear time to make progress in your construction times. Build approximately 10 to 18 barracks using approximately 3 to 5 builders. While building, repeatedly build supply depots, and a few additional miners. You will need very high resources to pay for everything. When the barracks are built, immediately begin recruiting marines. At first, build 1 or 2 marines at each barracks. Mass-produce these units. Once you acquire an army of marines you should be tactfully attack your enemy. This means "sneak around the back," and micro-manage your men. Don't just go in through the "front door," as this will often lead to mass suicide. If this method alone fails you, then you will want to accompany your marines with a few tanks. Remember, tanks don't have to be sieged, and they can be effective mobile units with your marines. In most cases, you will not need upgrades, or extra units.

Use 1 to 5 probes to build pylons, and gateways. Start with about 3 gateways, after about 10 minutes you should have about 6 in total. You will eventually want approximately 20 of them, if you find yourself in a rather long game. Constantly build Zealots. Once you form a good-sized army, you will have a decent chance at winning most games, but remember, you must use your men wisely. If you are struggling to dominate your opponent, you will need a few Dragoons added to your army. If the game is over a half an hour in length, you may consider upgrading your units and adding Templars with storming abilities.

This strategy is all about speed. Use speed to your advantage. Yes, this race does build buildings very slowly, but your units hatch quicker and cost relatively little in comparison to the other races. A good strategy is to build an army of Zerglings. Once you have 6 drones, wait for exactly 200 Minerals and immediately make your Spawning Pool right where your selected drone is. Remember, it's all about speed, and you shouldn't waste time by telling your drone to build far away. Also, you will need to get your defenses up as quickly as you possibly can since you are extremely weak in early game. You will want to place at least 1 Sunken next to your hatchery closest to the mineral fields for security. Next, add drones, and once you see the minerals reach 300 begin construction on the next hatchery. You will want to complete approximately 12 hatcheries, 18 or more for long games. This provides you 12 x 3 = 36 total units to hatch at any given moment. Don't forget to constantly build new drones while you are working on making your hatcheries, and assign them to mining duties. You will also want to build a Vespene Geyser and assign 2 drones to mine it. When you have 2 or 3 hatcheries begin building your Zergling army. Upgrade their speed immediately, as again, this strategy is all about speed. Next, you will want to further develop them by upgrading your hatchery until you reach the last evolution - the hive, which will allow you to upgrade your Zergling again for speed. Once you have a Hive, you will be able to upgrade your Zerglings one final time, so that you'll now have the fastest possible unit. Massing a big fast running army will catch your enemies' off-guard and render their defenses useless if this strategy is used wisely. Wisely meaning to concisely control their movement and run by lesser important buildings to strike the more important ones.

For All Races:

Always build multiple miners. The more minerals and gas you have the more units and buildings you can build. Furthermore, upgrades are significant and should always be started early in your games. Upgrades will give you a slight advantage above your opponents, you may think the difference is minimal, but it matters greatly. Finally, always add an additional command center, nexus or hatchery depending on your race. This additional base allows you to have a backup ready in case the primary one is destroyed and allows you to keep mining without interruption.
