Stargate has become a phenomenon. From the original starring Kurt Russell and David Slader through Ten Seasons and two networks, Stargate and its spawn are one of the most successful Science Fiction franchises.
When the Series ended the SGC had finally enacted a plan to defeat the Ori, who were sort of like religious evangelists with superpowers, and a habit of destroying those who did not convert. But there were remnants left; the Priors, who carried out the will of the Ori, were still an organized force, and Adria, (Morena Baccarin) the daughter of Vala, (Claudia Black) has ascended to gain the collective power of the Ori. Now SG1 is in search of an Ancient Artifact known as The Ark of Truth. The Ark was built to counter the power of the Ori, but never used for ethical reasons. Fortunately, morality is not what it used to be. Unfortunately, the Ark is not in our galaxy, but in the Ori Galaxy, and that means using the supergate.
Unfortunately, the IOA put an agent on the mission, Merrick. (Currie Graham) to make sure their wished were carried out. By definition, you know Merrick is going to be a tool.
In the Ori galaxy, Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) is guided on his path by visions only he can see. Of course, considering he has always been a space cadet and has never let them down, they are very patient, and it pays off.
Meanwhile, on the space craft, Merrick, when the Ark is not immediately found calls for the immediate destruction of the gate. When he is ignored in favor of sane plans that don't involve trapping them in another galaxy, he locks himself in a control room and initiates a fail safe plan. The plan turns on the Asgardian Engine, a sure signal to any Ori ship in the sector. When they arrive, he has a present for them; a replicator.
For those who don't know, a replicator is a mechanical bug that only exists to tear a planet apart and build more replicators. A more dangerous and implacable foe than the Gua'old, SG1 had managed to end their threat forever. Now, this jerk wants to throw them like hand grenades.
And of course, Lt. Col. Mitchell (Ben Browder) tries to destroy it, which of course gives it a chance to escape and begin eating the ship.
So, do the SG1 defeat any of the following? Adria and the Priors? The Replicators? Marrick? Do they get back to their own galaxy? Do they destroy any of the following? The Supergate, their own ship, the Replicators? Life as we know it?
This is a great episode of SG1. Unfortunately, it is a movie. I am sorry, I expect a bit more from a movie, even a straight to video one. Perhaps the problem lies in the incredible production value of SG1, maybe it's hard to step things up from such a high level. Lord knows, it's better than many "Movies" made for Sci Fi Channel, heck, its better than every made for Sci Fi movie.
Final analysis; its great to see Teal'c, Col. Carter, and all the rest one last time. But unless you are a fan and have the entire show on disk, you can just watch it on Netflix.
