Stars Know Best: An Earth Day (Earth Week) Poem

National Poetry Month Daily Challenge: Earth Day Poem

Khara E. House
If this indigo sphere could speak she'd tell us
we have it backwards. That we are universally
outnumbered. Perhaps it would make us
stop to think to care. To cherish the star-
dappled nights beneath an inky sky,
and roll these patchwork hills. Sing the
song of cricket wings. Beat our chests
to the tune of beating wings, as starlings
shatter us with their billowing ascent. To listen
to her voice when she sighs against a vagrant breeze,
that these blades of grass don't laugh forever,
and even the sun will pass, but when it comes to living
stars know best.
