Stars and Lights for a Romantic Anniversary in Long Beach
Neighborhood: Signal Hill

It was a Christmas that I will never forget. I had the most memorable night of my life, celebrating our one year anniversary. We had with us a basket of assorted cheeses, soft baked rolls and excellent wine. This picnic feast would have seemed ordinary, had it not been for the romantic setting that we were in. The place is called Signal Hill. If you live in Southern California, you should definitely check it out. Located in the outskirts of populated Long Beach, California, Signal Hill provides the perfect escape to an eccentric and magical evening. The place is actually not very far. Just take the Cherry Ave. exit off of 405-S and turn left on Hill street. You will have to mount a pretty steep passage, but that actually adds suspense for your partner. Furthermore, blindfold your girlfriend so she has no idea where she is at.

As you arrive, you will see a pagoda on top of a hill with visible lights, so you can't miss it. Remember to open the door for her and offer her your jacket. It's pretty cold and windy up there. There will be a stage decorated with abstract sculptures that cast beautiful portraits in its shadows. Politely ask her to sit down on a bench and make her guess where she is. When she has exhausted all of her ideas, remove the blindfold and show her the wonders of this scene. Below is the city of Long Beach, bustling with lights and activities while up ahead, a clear sky decorated with shining stars displays a contrasting stillness. However, the place would be really quiet if you get there late at midnight, though it would be freezing cold.

Here comes the sensual part. Spread out a beautiful picnic cover and set the basket down. Feed each other foods that will ignite your passion, i.e chocolate-covered strawberries, cheese, whipped cream. Remember to do it slowly so you will remember this moment for ever. Also bring along a CD player and put on some romantic music or meaningful songs. The ones like A Moment Like This by Kelly Clarkson or My Love by Westlife set a very amorous mood. Start a conversation, reminisce a little, laugh a lot and exchange deep, hot, sensual kisses. The rest of the evening is then up to you to finish.

As for me, I did not have the luck to see a shooting star, for it would wrap up the night with a storybook ending. However, I did give my girlfriend my keepsake and her anniversary presents. I brought the guitar and played her favorite song and finished it with flowers the next morning. Be true to yourself and express your love for one another. I hope my tips helped for a romantic date.
