Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation

The Plot

This time we join a platoon of mobile infantry stranded on a planet far from home. The bugs that attacked earth with a meteor, destroying Buenas Aries are trying to wipe out the platoon. A general stranded with the platoon insists that the grunts make a break for an outpost near to the location on which they are stranded. The troopers manage to beat off the large and very lethal bugs and make it to the deserted outpost. They find Captain Dax locked up in the outpost for murder, but one of the troopers (a psychic) lets him free.

After a while the general, against all odds makes it to the outpost. Helped by three strangers he is tired but unhurt. Little does the general know, but the bugs have control of the three strangers and they are now the enemy within. What follows is an action packed fight for survival with man pitted against the bugs. Will the troopers survive, or will the bugs infiltrate the general and from there all mankind?

My View

Hero of the Federation was nothing like the first movie in this series and apart from the bugs being the same and the uniforms of the troopers being similar, you would never know the movies are linked. How they can call it "Starship Troopers" at all is beyond me. Gone are the amazing space battles between the alien bugs and the human fleet, gone is the wonderful computer graphic effects and gone are all the main characters from the original. As a separate movie from the series it really is not worth watching, but as part of the series it is tolerable.

Conclusion

A poor follow-up to the original Starship Troopers, this sequel lacks the originality to be great. Both violence and nudity make it a poor choice for children.
