To begin your small catering business you first need to go to your local Health Department and get the necessary licenses and inspection for the area that you plan to be cooking at be sure that all your items are up to code before you began. Note that just because it's your home you can't just cook and serve unfortunately without the Health Department inspection.
If catering have been your dream then you should already know the different types of food and drinks that you will be serving so know need to tell you about that, but if you have not already decided on the types of food this would be a great time to figure all that out. After everything that you plan to serve is written and you pass inspection now is the time that you need to get the word out about your business.
Depending upon how big or small your town is this will determine the different ways you can get the information out about your new business. Flyer's are one of the most effected way and within reason for budgeting. It will not take a huge amount of money to get a catering business off the ground especially if you are starting out small so don't go getting into large amounts of debt for unnecessary things. Because you are first starting out with your business don't try to buy tables and chairs yet just rent them until your business start to make good money then you can buy your own items, but for now renting is the key. If you have a few hundreds of dollars this should do you plenty of justice if you are starting right out of your home kitchen this will be fine until your business starts to really grow.
There is nothing left to do as far as getting started except getting the word out, figuring the prices to charge your customers, most importantly be sure to display your advertisement in the local newspapers and surrounding area's this will be a big help. Your advertisement should state what type of events that you will be catering to be sure to. It would be in your best interest to start out catering to lots of different occasions like birthday parties, wedding, fund raisers, and any type special events. Always do your best work and stay friendly, but yet professional know that you have a job to do. You will see how swiftly your business will expand and how word of mouth will be your biggest help good or bad so remember to do your very best.
