Start Your Own Balloon Business

Kendra Dahlstrom
Having a balloon business may sound crazy, but it can actually be quite lucrative. I have a friend that recently started this type of business. Once she told the me the details, I realized it was genius. Here are the steps you can take to start your own balloon business in your town.

Find Balloons
You can find balloons everywhere. As a matter of fact, you can get them at the local dollar store, card or party outlet, online, or from a wholesale party catalog. Anywhere you go, they are fairly cheap. The only thing you may want to buy that will cost a little bit of money up front is a helium tank. However, you can just get your balloons filled with helium from the local party store in the beginning. This will cut your initial business start-up costs.

Finding a Client Base
Here is the fun part. When you think of balloons, you probably think of parties. However, the real money will come from another source: car dealerships. Drive around your town. Most dealerships have balloons around their lots and flying from certain cars. If you think they do this themselves, think again. As a matter of fact, most car dealerships pay people to replace these balloons each week. My friend gets $50 a week for each dealership she services!

Securing Clients
Securing clients is where some people turn and run. It is what separates the serious business entrepreneurs from the pack. You must bring a business card to each dealership in your town or surrounding area. Introduce yourself to the owner or managers of the businesses. Let them know that you are trying to start a local business and that you will give them a discounted price for their balloons and balloon placement. Try to find out what they currently pay for balloon services, and offer them less. The more clients you get, the more experience you can take with you.

Executing
Once you have your first client, it is time to deliver your products. Bring the specified amount of balloons to the sight. Replace the old, but use your imagination with new patterns, colors, and designs. You want your new balloon business to impress you customers. If other car dealerships see what a fantastic job you are doing, you may gain some new clients.

My friend does her balloon rounds twice a week. She is a busy mom, but manages to make $500 a week during those two days of delivery. I am envious that I did not come up with the idea before she did. The balloon business allows her to stay at home with her children while still making a decent income.
