Six Tips that Will Help You Minimize Water Consumption

Have you stopped to think if you're really doing everything in your hands to conserve water, which is our most precious resource? As you know water is essential for life to exist in this planet, here are some very simple ways to consume water more responsibly and give back to our planet and future generations.

To follow these simple steps you will only need food coloring, a water jug, a broom and a spray bottle. Not much right? And think about how you'll be a part of the solution.

A lot will have to do with being responsible for your own actions, for example; if you go to a restaurant ask yourself if ordering water is really necessary. Look around next time you're at a restaurant and you will notice how many people order water but don't even drink it. Order a glass of water only if you're planning on drinking it and ask for a refill if you will really finish the glass of water.

Check your toilet to make sure it isn't leaking. You can check for leaks by adding a drop of food coloring in the tank and if it shows up in the bowl after a few minutes and it hasn't been flushed, it means that you have a leak. A toilet with a leak can waste up to 200 gallons of water per day!

If you use tap water to drink at home, keep a pitcher with water in the refrigerator so when you start the water you don't have to wait until it gets cold.

When you wash your fruits and vegetables do it in a basin instead of running them water, this way you can reuse that water either to boil your veggies or even to water your plants. Not only will you be saving water but will be giving them extra nutrients. You can also use the water you reused to boil the veggies to start a soup stock.

If you have a dehumidifier at home, use the water in it to water your plants.

Don't slack! Sweep your steps, driveways, and your sidewalk instead of hosing them off. You will use less water and burn some calories in the process. It's a win-win situation.

Keep a spray bottle of water or a small glass with water in it next to your bathroom sink. This way you won't have to run the faucet to wet your toothbrush before brushing your teeth. Picture how much water you will save by simply applying this advice.

Just to put things into perspective the average person in America consumes up to 30 gallons of water on a daily basis. If you put a little bit of effort you will be making a difference.
