Start of the Seahawks 2008 Season

The Seahawks are in trouble this 2008 season. They have one win and five losses as of October 24th and turning things around looks like it will be very hard. Losing to teams like San Francisco and Buffalo just isn't going to cut it in today's NFL. Their lack of offense and defensive stops is hurting them mightily and nothing seems to be going their way

Of course, injuries to key players like quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and wide reciever Deion Branch haven't helped their cause either. Without their franchise quarterback, Seneca Wallace has had to try to pick things up, but hasn't been able to. I can't blame it all on him though, even he had a calf injury and was working on becoming a wide reciever before having to step up to starting quarterback. Deion Branch was also a huge loss because he was so skilled. At 5-9 and having a ton of athleticism, he was becoming an outstanding receiver for the Seahawks. He was the 2005 Super Bowl MVP (for the New England Patriots) just in case there was any doubt in your mind how big of a contributor he was. Mike Holmgren has also announced that he will take the 2009 season off. This doesn't bode well for player's mindsets during a struggling season. Problems like these have just not helped the Seahawks.

However, some good things have happened for the Seahawks. They released struggling running back Shaun Alexander and got young, promising running back Julius Jones. Shaun Alexander, 2006 NFL MVP, struggled with injuries last season. The result: not a very productive season from a once great running back. On the other side of the coin, they got very promising running back Julius Jones who shared time with Marion Barber on the Dallas Cowboys last year. He has the potential to be another franchise player along with Matt Hasselbeck for this team.

However, there is still hope for the Seahawks. If Matt Hasselbeck and Deion Branch can get healthy, they'll have some playmakers. Someone who I haven't mentioned is Bobby Engram who is a seasoned veteran who can also flat out play the game. Now picture this: Matt Hasselbeck, Deion Branch, Julius Jones and Bobby Engram clicking on all cylinders. Yeah, that's going to be hard to stop. If this team can get healthy, they can have a run at a Wild Card or Playoff spot if they can get there soon enough. If not, well, there's always next year.
