Let's start with the clothing. You will need at least three good jacket and skirt ensembles. Make these as high quality as you can afford and update them when you get the chance. I recommend one in black, one in white or a light neutral tone as well as one in a medium toned neutral color. These will be very versatile and can add almost endless possibilities. Try to find a matching knit outfit. A jacket and skirt or a top and pants are great options. Choose neutral color mixtures for this outfit. This will help add to the versatility of your wardrobe. You should have two appropriate styled dresses. Choose one with a fun but conservative print and one in a solid neutral color. You will be able to mix and match the jackets from your suits with these dresses for a more formal business look. I suggest having two pairs of dress pants for cooler days and for a bit more versatility. Choose one pair in a soft material such as linen and one in a heavier material like tweed. I prefer to have one pair in a plaid print to add a bit of interest to my wardrobe but this is completely up to you. Choose five shirts that will fit nicely under your jackets and match your pants and skirts well. This is the opportunity to add the color we all crave having in our wardrobe. You should also have two professional coats for wearing to the office and other business functions. I recommend one in a trench style and one in a shorter length pea coat.
You will need some accessories to help liven up your wardrobe. You should have three pairs of medium heeled pumps in neutral colors that match your clothing. Choose three leather belts that match your pumps. Purchase a few scarves in different colors, patterns and styles to add to your wardrobe. These can be worn around the neck, waist, with a coat or on a bag. You should also have two handbags. One in a large slouchy style and one professional looking messenger bag. They will get you very far, so treat them well. For any women who works in a professional setting it is necessary to have hosiery. Have at least ten good pairs, ranging in color and texture. Stick with neutral colors and no patterns. If you are able to get your hands on a little bit of jewelry for cheap, try picking up some hoop and post earrings. A gold and silver version of each would be nice as well as a pair of diamond or diamond like studs. Try to find a simple chain or two. One in gold and one in silver ideally. Have a nice simple watch that you can match well with your wardrobe as well as a pins and brooches to liven up your jackets.
