Christmas traditions usually stem from generations of family traditions. You can simply adopt your family traditions or you may opt to start a new tradition or incorporate pieces of your own and your spouse's traditions to create something new.
Traditions are act's you do each and every time an occurrence happens, such as Christmas. Many people gear their traditions around spending time with their family but it can also be as simple as ensuring your house is equipped with something such as mistletoe.
Christmas Eve Tradition Ideas:
Family Sharing: Maybe you're looking for a way to have the family come together and reflect on what Christmas really is about, sort of like a way to teach children that Christmas is not about the toy's and themselves. The night before Christmas gather your family around and share with one another what you are thankful for, why you appreciate one another or to simply share what the meaning of Christmas means to each person individually.
Reading: This is a great family tradition to share with your family or your kids. Before bed everyone gathers around to have a Christmas book read or even verses from your preferred religious text. This tradition can even be started prior Christmas eve by reading a chapter a night up until Christmas Eve. Make sure you count the chapters though so you know when to start so the last chapter is read on Christmas Eve.
Cooking or Eating: Let's face it most families love to come together to share a dinner. These traditions can be from anything from sharing hot chocolate and anticipating what Santa will put under the tree to inviting a small group of friends and family over to enjoy a small meal and good company. Not to mention putting out cookies and milk for Santa has been a long standing tradition in many homes.
No matter the tradition your family decides to partake in the most important thing to remember is that by building traditions you are making memories. The memories are the most important part of your Christmas Eve traditions.
