Starting a Custom Erotica-Writing Business: Part 2

Create Forms for Interaction with Your Custom Erotica Clients

Kylyssa Shay
In order to write custom erotica, you need to find out exactly what your clients want. The easiest way to get this information is to provide your custom erotica clients with a form or checklist.

In How to Start a Custom Erotica Business Part One we discussed how to decide what you can and will write about, what lengths of custom erotica stories you will offer, what rights you will sell to clients and how much you will charge for your services. Once you have made those decisions you will need to create some forms to interact with your custom erotica clients.

While many custom erotica clients have specific fantasies, they may need a checklist to help them provide you with the details you need to write a convincing erotic story that faithfully represents their fantasy. You need to find out the who, what, where, when, and why of your custom erotica client's fantasy.

It's best to start with who, or the cast of characters to star in your custom erotica client's fantasy. You'll need to know each character's physical and behavioral characteristics. Some of the characteristics will be eye color, hair style and color, height, skin tone, weight, and build. Additionally, you will need to know more private characteristics such as breast size and type, penis size and type, and identifying marks such as moles or scars. It's also helpful to know how the custom erotica client wishes the characters to be dressed. You may also request a photo of the characters, assuming they are real people. Assure your custom erotica clients of their complete confidentiality. I let my custom erotica clients know that I dispose of their photos and information forms unless they specifically request otherwise.

As to what, that is what the custom erotica client wants to have happen in his or her fantasy scenario. You'll want to know which sex acts and non-sexual actions the custom erotica client desires and which characters are to perform those sex acts or non-sexual actions. You may need to do some research into sex acts you are not familiar with. What the custom erotica client wants also includes how long the scenario is to be and what rights they want to buy from you.

To help your custom erotica client understand how long a story he or she wants you will need to provide a guide explaining how many sex scenes or sex acts can generally fit in a certain number of words. This is not a set number but something pretty specific to each individual author; you'll need to do a bit of erotica writing without a client to determine it. When is an easily answered question - morning, noon, or night - the seventies, the future, or ten minutes from now - after a shower or a company party? It helps to create leading questions to get the custom erotica client to provide you with more details.

Where the custom erotica scenario will take place is also pretty easy. This may also require a bit of leading and suggestion in the format of your questions. I suggest you not ask for too much detail in this area unless the custom erotica client has a very specific fantasy of a very specific spot. Be prepared to do a little research if the custom erotica scenario takes place in a city, place, or type of place you are unfamiliar with.

Why is not exactly the question you need to have answered but it is close enough. What motivates the action in the custom erotica scenario is a more accurate line of inquiry.

You will also want to include an area where your custom erotica client can write out any other details they'd like you to know.

Think about these questions and the way you will most clearly understand the custom erotica client's answers. Some people prefer multiple choice answers while others prefer fill-in-the-blank style questions. Chances are, the custom erotica client interaction forms you create will change as you gain more experience and tailor them to your needs and your clients' needs.

Once you decide on a format you can create your custom erotica client interaction forms in Excel, Microsoft Word, even Notepad. The client interaction forms can then be sent via email or through the mail. Another alternative is to incorporate the custom erotica client interaction forms into your website either for the custom erotica clients to download, to cut and paste into an email or to fill out right on your website.

Once you have created custom erotica client interaction forms, your next step is creating content for advertising and creating a webpage.
