Creating Habits. It's been said that it takes twenty-one days to create a new habit. If you start your new years resolution now you will be close to this number by the beginning of the new year. The reality is that it takes time to start creating the habits necessary to make a major change in your life. Start your resolution now and go into the new year already on track to accomplish your goal. You will be more likely to keep up with whatever you are doing because you've been doing it for a couple of weeks already.
Avoiding the New Years trap. Because it takes several days to start a new habit, waiting till the first of the year to start something new is not the best plan. If you are trying to lose weight don't wait until New Years Day. You will stay on your diet for a few days but eventually go back to your old ways. If you are trying to do better with your money, you will do well for a while but soon revert back to your old habits. Don't fall into the new year trap. Start your resolution early and go into the new year already on track to achieve your goal.
Show that you are serious. In order to accomplish a major live changing goal you have to be serious. Losing weight, saving money, and quitting smoking all require serious mindsets to be achieved. Most people who have new years resolutions are not real serious. They are serious about what they want to do, but not serious about putting in the work and dedication to accomplish these goals. When you start working on your resolution early you are proving to yourself you are serious about accomplishing your goal. You are saying to yourself that I am willing to do what it takes because this goal is so important to me. Even if that means making sacrifices during the holiday.
Make adjustments. One final reason that starting early is a good idea is that it gives you time to make adjustments. If you are trying to lose weight or stop smoking you may realize it's going to be tougher than you thought. Starting early allows you to make some adjustments before the new year starts in order to be really ready to go once the new year arrives.
Making a major life change is never easy. Don't make the mistake of waiting until next year to get started. Jump start your chances for success by starting to work toward your goal now.
