FADE IN:
The Guardian appear on screen, KIRK , SPOCK, MR. SULU and an Ensign materialize. Kirk looks it over before ordering parties to search about. He stares back at the guardian and then to Spock.
KIRK:
What are you reading Mr. Spock?
SPOCK (with tri corder):
Captain, energy is dropping readings are faint. If I didn't know better I would say The Guardian is dying.
KIRK:
Dying? Is that possible? It said it wasn't a being.
SPOCK:
Correction Captain. It said "I am both...and neither."
CUT T0:
INT. ENTERPRISE-D PICARD'S QUARTERS.
PICARD is listening to music. The yellow alert sounds.
V.O. RIKER:
Captain to the bridge.
PICARD:
On my way.
INT. ENTERPRISE-D BRIDGE
Picard enters. RIKER stands behind DATA seated at the com, WORF is at the security control. TROI sits.
PICARD:
Number 1?
RIKER:
Sir this is one you will have to see to believe. Mr. Data on screen
Data:
Yes Commander.
Picard:
Have you attempted to hail them?
Riker:
No sir, we wanted to wait for your order on that. Mr. Data maximum magnification.
The screen reveals a hazing anomaly but clearly in view is The USS Enterprise Class-B. Picard looks around the bridge.
Picard:
Mr. Data what am I looking at?
Data:
Sir, sensor readings indicate the USS Enterprise Class-B commanded by Capt. James T. Kirk.
Picard:
Is it an illusion? That ship was destroyed over 80 years ago.
Q appears on the bridge dressed in the uniform of Capt Kirk's crew.
Q:
Captiton. How good to see you again.
Worf draws his phaser ,clicks his com badge and advances towards Q.
Worf:
Intruder alert.
Q raises his hand stopping Worf in his tracks and dances him around like a young schoolgirl.
Q:
Picard, do you ever tire of this one's barbaric behavior.
Picard:
Q release my officer immediately!
Q:
Very well, but he better behave or he'll spend eternity as a targ.
Q releases Worf who is ordered with a comforting hand gesture back to his station by Picard.
Picard:
I might have known when everything defied logic and order that you were behind this. What is this another test? Well, I am not playing nor is my crew.
Q vanishes and appears perched in front of main viewer screen pointing at the Enterprise B.
Q:
Well, Capitan I appreciate the faith in my creativity and ability, but alas, this is not my doing. Oh and the robot is right. It is in fact the USS Enterprise Capt. James T. Kirk at the helm. They are in a...what do you call it robot?
Data:
I am an android not a robot...I believe he is referring to an anomaly, Sir.
Q:
Right, right. smart Robot.
Picard:
Q, What do you want?
Q:
I want you and your counterpart over there to fix this before it is too late. Kirk will be trying to contact you soon enough. I think that the (looks at Data for feigned conformation) anomaly is beginning to tear his ship apart.
Picard:
Q, if you as you say didn't cause this and can't help. Then what in the devil are you doing here?
Q:
Well, I figured if Kirk is going to have help you should too. Do be quick Picard, this time the moment is bigger than the 4 of us. This time existence itself is on the clock.
Q vanishes.
CUT TO:
EXT. THE GUARDIAN PLANET
Mr. Sulu and the others have rejoined Spock and Kirk before the Guardian.
Kirk:
Guardian do you know why your energy is growing weak.
The Guardian:
No.
Kirk (to Sulu):
Did you find anything??
Mr. Sulu:
No, Captain. Except for us the planet is deserted.
V.O. SCOTTY:
Capt.
Kirk:
Go ahead Scotty I hope you have good news.
Scotty:
Wish that I had any sir, but we're losing power. If I don't beam you up now I may not be able to...
The Guardian (faintly):
The answers are everywhere. You must go everywhere.
Kirk:
That's the third time The Guardian has said that. The answers are everywhere. How do you go everywhere?
Scotty:
Great Cesar's Ghost!
Kirk (looks at Spock):
What is it Scotty?
Scotty:
Sir I better let you see this for yourself less you be relieving me from duty
Spock:
There doesn't seem to be anything else we can learn here, Captain.
Kirk:
Scotty 4 to beam up.
The landing party are beamed away from the planet. One more shot of a graying dimly flashing Guardian.
INT. ENTERPRISE-B BRIDGE
The Captain, Spock and Mr. Sulu enter all on the bridge are standing in awe at the Enterprise-D
Kirk:
Mr. Scott, what in the world is that?
Scotty:
I don't rightly know but me sensors tell me it is a star ship, with federation markings, but like no starship I have every seen on paper , in person or dream.
Kirk:
Lt Uhura have we tried to hail them.
Uhura:
Yes Capt. But they aren't responding. I have tried all subspace bands, nothing.
Spock takes his place at the Science station.
Spock:
Sir readings indicate that this ship does have some federation Starfleet signature, however it is in no know registry
Kirk:
Uhura continue to hail that ship. They may know something about what is happening to The Guardian.
Spock:
The storm is increasing and the hull is starting to show signs of stress fractures.. A hull breach in imminent.
Kirk:
Okay we can't complete our mission with the guardian if the ship is torn apart. Mr. Sulu get us clear of the planet and this storm Warp 6.
Mr. Sulu,
Aye Aye. Capt the ship isn't responding. The warp engines are off line and impulse engines aren't responding either.
Kirk:
Scotty
Scotty:
On my way to main engineering Sir.
Scotty exits bridge.
CUT TO:
INT ENTERPRISE-D BRIDGE
Picard:
Data have we made any headway on just what is going on here?
Data:
Sir,. Q was right sensors are indicating stress fracture on the hull of the enterprise inside the anomaly increasing
Picard:
Open a channel.
Riker
Sir is that wise.
Picard:
I am well aware of the risks involved number 1. but whatever time they are in, in this time, right now that is a Starfleet vessel and crew. I am duty, morally bound to help them. We will simply proceed with caution to protect the time line as best we can. Open a channel audio only.
Picard
This is the Starship, this is Capt John Luc Picard of the Federation of Planets. Can you hear me?
Kirk:
This is Captain James T Kirk of the USS Enterprise. We are in need of assistance. Is that a federation vessel we don't recognize your registry.
Picard:
I will explain all of that later Captain. Or sensors indicate you are stuck in the anomaly.
Kirk:
To put it mildly, any assistance is appreciated particularly if it is immediate.
Picard:
Data, can we lock onto them with a tractor beam and pull them free?
Data:
Yes, but I don't know what the additional stress will do to their ship. If I had more time to analyze the anomaly perhaps...
Kirk:
Well, Data was it? In 30 mnutes my crew and this ship are going to make for a lot of small parts to analyze.
Picard:
Captain Kirk, I agree, prepare your crew we will begin tractoring your vessel
Kirk:
Aye Aye Captain. Hopefully I will be thanking you shortly.
Picard:
Picard out. Number 1 have Dr Crusher prepare cargo bay 3 with medical teams there may be heavy casualties.
Data:
The tractor beam is ready sir.
Picard:
Engage
The Enterprise B is pulled from the anomaly. During the tractor there is much turbulence on the ship, explosions and people tossed about some fatally wounded, but the ship comes through.
Riker:
Sir we should start evacing their casualties.
Capt.:
Make it so. Lt Troi, I'd like you to go to cargo bay 3.
Riker:
Sir, I still think this situation reeks of one of Q's little games.
Capt.:
Oddly this time I don't think so. I am puzzled by what he said, "this time the moment is bigger than the 4 of us. This time existence itself is on the clock." Mr. Data constant scans of the area from which the enterprise. Number 1 Go over ever millisecond of the senor logs
Riker:
What exactly are we looking for sir
Capt.:
Answers, Number 1 Answers.
