Starving for Some Meaty Thanksgiving Football

The NFL Has Given Us a Couple of Turkeys to Go with Our Thanksgiving Meal

Darren Pare
I made a big mistake today. I went online and checked the scheduled football games for Thanksgiving and boy did the NFL put the screws to us fans. The first game has the Green Bay Packers visiting the Detroit Lions, a game that will induce more yawns than the tryptophan in the turkey. The second game features the Oakland Raiders taking on the Dallas Cowboys, someone wake me when dessert is being served. The third game is a little more exciting the New York Giants face off against the Denver Broncos. Oh wait I can't watch that game because it is on the NFL Network.

Now don't get me wrong I am not calling for the Lions or Cowboys to lose their traditional Thanksgiving day games, just match them up with exciting teams. Why not have the Lions play the Minnesota Vikings? We could all watch Adrian Peterson run while we munch on some stuffing and compare him to the guy we used to watch every turkey day, Barry Sanders. As for the Cowboys why not have them take on the Giants at least I could root for Dallas to snap Eli Manning like a wishbone. Then for your NFL Network game have the Raiders take on the Broncos, if nothing else it is a rivalry game.

Obviously the NFL thinks that we all have nothing better to do on Thanksgiving, so they will put any ol' garbage on and figure the masses will watch. That is the only explanation for having the Raiders play at all on national TV. The Raiders are beyond dreadful and I personally won't waste a minute watching them get beat around while Jamarcus Russell looks like the worst number one draft pick ever.

So instead I will spend some time with my family. Maybe play a game or two and retell the same stories that have been told a thousand times before. Maybe I will even take my time eating and enjoy some conversation instead of shoveling my food in so I don't miss the play everyone will be talking about. No this year Thanksgiving will be different; I'm just not sure if I should thank the NFL or curse them. Check back with me on Black Friday.

I found you can watch it at http://leafpen.com/38890 - but it makes you fill out a survey before it works. i think they also put up a replay afterward.
